Commercial Description:
The festive season just wouldn’t be the same without this speciality beer whose arrival is always long-awaited. The tradition of Christmas beers is particular to northern Europe. In the years following the Second World War, the breweries used to sell an original, richer and stronger beer at the same price as year-round beers: this was their gift to their customers. The Duycks have perpetuated this custom by creating a special beer sold at the usual price. Produced with more malt than Jenlain Ambrée (3 different types of malt made from French grown barley and 3 varieties of the most aromatic hops from Alsace), this top fermented, unpasteurized beer, best served at between 6 and 8°C, has a rich amber glow, a denser head and stronger alcohol content (6.8% alcohol by volume). Darker than the traditional amber beer, its torrefied undertones are reminiscent of flowers and caramel. And the 2002 Christmas beer had a hint of orange.

Bottle: Clear caramel amber color, big head and nice lacing. Nose of bright herb and fruit, some yeast, alcohol and night malt. The flavor is fruity, lots of cherry and fig, some light malt and a hop/alcohol note. Thin but good.

250 ml bottle at home ... Nice ruby colour ... odd woody hop nose ... sweet floral caramel tones, quite rich good body with little citric acidity and a little white wine in the finish. not bad though

750 ml corked bottle. Pours hazy light amber. Nice fully lasting tanned head. Pleasant and complex aroma of sweet citrus, caramel and herbs with an yeasty and earthy-bitter bite. Taste is light citric-acidic, woody and dry malty. Feels surprisingly light and mellow in the mouth. Slight fruity and mild bitter finish.

Bottle sampled. Pours copper with a decent size off-white head. Aroma of spices, fruit, and citrus. The flavor is slightly sweet, fruit, spices, and a citrusy mild bitterness.

750ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber with a one finger short lived white head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma of malt, citrus, and light caramel. Taste is citrus and malt with a hint of bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin. A good beer but a little boring.

750mL bottle, 2002 I believe. Poured medium orange with a lovely initial cap of creamy off-white head that receded to a fine film. Right out of the bottle, this had a dry, dusty aroma without much other character... opened up to reveal spiked oranges (screwdrivers come to mind), sweet candy, and caramel... floral accents. Flavor had a thick, dusty caramel base with orange candy sweetness emanating outward.. floral notes and alcohol inter-laced through there.. tasty and sweet.. a tad cloying, though. Rather thick on the palate with a decent flow.. just gets caught up a bit at the finish. Enjoyed it.
