beer is not 3, it is choice. really cheee dog. you should try this beer if you can find it. it’s truly a wonderful thing. the alcohol burn at the end makes it extra memorable. if you like Coors Light - stay away, not for you.

Pours a dusty, brassy hue with a tall, foamy white head. Surprisingly there are some particulates--maybe I didn’t clean my glass well enough? Anyway, the head quickly fades into nothingness, otherwise it’d get a 4. First aromatic impression is of pineapple upside-down cake, followed by much lighter elements of peaches and honey. Bananas, muddy earth, clove and pepper develop with some warmth. Holding the aroma back is a soft metallic element, some overripe fruit and a lack of intensity. The flavour begins sweetly with angel food cake, pineapples and bananas. Lemony acidity comes into play mid-palate, leading into a bready finish with a hint of peppery bite. A bit of honey develops in the aftertaste. Like the aroma, the flavour is severely underpowered, and can be a little tinny at times. The carbonation is soft, but plentiful, which is nice, the body is a little fuller than average and the mouthfeel slick...but there’s a detracting astringency and light vodka-like burn, as well. My numbers bounced around a lot on this one before settling on my final score. It’s, ehh, a hair better than average all things considered. 50cl can, Duvel tulip, bbe 11-06-08.

Light amber, yellow coloured beer with some average carbonation with a small white head. Light malty aroma. Full palate. Finish is malty, herby, little alcoholic. Not bad.

12oz bottle. Aroma is earthy with yeasty malts dominating the nose. Medium gold color with an average sized white head that mostly diminished and left great lacing. Flavor is moderately sweet and spicy with an earthy undertone. Average finish. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. 7.5% is a good ABV but I don’t see myself craving this brew anytime soon.

From a 750 ml. caged cork green bottle, no bottling/freshness date I could find, a short blurb on the back label, sampled in a tulip glass. Reddish, orangey golden appearance with a foamy, creamy white head, dissipates into a sudsy lacing, minimal amount of sticking. A light nose, citric rind, apples, clove, pepper, honey toasted grains, medicinal alcohol and a subtle musty hay. Airy smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel, dryly crisp, tastes of apple and green skins with candied sugar sprinkled over them, toasted malts, clove, salt and minerals, a spiciness that turns herbal towards the end, a very light earthy mustiness mingles with the medicinal alcohol, a sweet toasted graininess emerges in the finish, an easy sipping drinkability. I like this French brewery and this is another decent Bière de Garde from them, all are worth trying.

Bottle (75cl): Deep golden, small, stable, lacing white head; distinctive sweet-malty, a bit alcoholic and a bit hoppy nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied; fruity, a bit citrousy finish with sweet malt and hops in the aftertaste. Nice french stuff....
