Commercial Description:
With its splendid golden hues and fruity tones, Jenlain No. Six has a distinctive bitter finish and a hoppy nose. The barley-scented liquor sparkles under its light, foamy head. Light and thirst-quenching, with a rich characteristic savour, it is best served at between 5 and 6°C, with a meal or as an aperitif. Filtered, and lagered but unpasteurised.

Editor’s Note:From 2000 until March 2005 this was known as Jenlain Blonde. The name Jenlain Blonde now is used for a new (March 2005) product of 7.5% abv.

Gorgeous painted green 750 ml bottle, consumed with gusto in the company of MartinT, tiggmtl and Rastacouere. Clear oily golden color with a moderate head; slight skunkiness in the initial aroma which thankfully fades quickly, turning grainy, herbal and very sharp. Body is light and refreshing, low in the yeast, sweet and balanced throughout with touches of vanilla amidst oregano and rosemary, ending quite peppery/hoppy. Not exactly a typical BDG as far as I can tell, but very nice and underrated I think.

The Lure:
A sparkling cidery glow withholds some haystacks and some droplets of sweat from the people who have stacked them. Sharp yet approachable, a farmhouse character somewhat diluted for mass appeal.

The Festivities:
Feathery hay floating over big glistening bubbles. Sweet but discreet apples tickled by shy but playful herbal hops.

Transcendence:
Drinkability is key after milking the cows.

Nice foamy white head, mountainous. Clear gold hue displaying minimal carbonation. Big malty aroma, pils like with an exquisite sea air component melting well with the grassy and hay-like farmhouse elements. The straw scent may come up a bit too much up front to my liking, but it definitely makes me feel for a pils. Musty, mellow weird herbs, alga or with an aquatic feel anyway. Light palate, malty despite a hop crunch toward the finish, but it never becomes too dry. Pleasant foamy mouthfeel, biting carbonation, rounder than a pilsner, but just as refreshing. The ultimate classic bière de garde though??

Fruity, sweaty, herbal hop nose with toasty cereal malts. Clear golden blond with decent, fine-bubbled, white head that recedes to lasting cover. Earthy and spicy hop flavour over sweet malty body. Medium-light body is very easy to drink. Very subdued and unassuming. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.

Bottle. Golden with small head. Sweet, fruity, vanilla, soft mouthfeel. Highly drinkable but not too exciting.

High white head on a clear yellow body. From the lookj of it, on might think this just another pilsner. But this first impression is denied as soon as you taste the beer: it has a very nice sweetness, avoiding much of the hoppy bitterness characteristic of many blond beers. I was a bit bothered by the clear bottle: this brew deserves better.

Crystal clear straw body with big white head. Aroma is mild green-bottle skunky, medium sweet, hay, light apple, plastic. Taste is moderately sweet, honey/corn syrup, biscuit, apple, light orange, plastic. Watery light-medium body. Nothing to recommend here.

Large white head. Also had a bright gold and red body with lots of fast moving carbonation bubbles. The aroma was just a touch skunky. It also had sour apples and hay. The flavor is sweet with mild apples. A fairly malty and refreshing brew. I really like the light and playful character of the mouthfeel. Why is this in a green bottle?
