Commercial Description:
With its splendid golden hues and fruity tones, Jenlain No. Six has a distinctive bitter finish and a hoppy nose. The barley-scented liquor sparkles under its light, foamy head. Light and thirst-quenching, with a rich characteristic savour, it is best served at between 5 and 6°C, with a meal or as an aperitif. Filtered, and lagered but unpasteurised.

Editor’s Note:From 2000 until March 2005 this was known as Jenlain Blonde. The name Jenlain Blonde now is used for a new (March 2005) product of 7.5% abv.

Bottle picked up from Waitrose, Witney 10th July 2006. I drank this sat in garden 15-07-06. Crikey this could be a Pale Lager that I actually didn’t mind and one that could actually register a half decent rating. Pours a very clear golden colour, foamier head than it should have had due in some part to my careless pouring. Some hops on the nose, and a slight sweetness detected, good refreshing taste some citrus notes detected and also with more maltiness than many others of it’s ilk, If I’m being a touch critical then it’s sweetness outweighs the bitterness, but the strength is noticeable. Overall a decent Pale Lager that I could sup away on in this heatwave we’re having at the moment.

a pretty good lager, but not much to notice here. Pretty tasty though. Good summer beer.

A grassy, hoppy aroma. Golden color. A bit heavier in taste than a typical pilsner. It’s "softer" than a pils, perhaps a bit maltier. Drinks nicely, with a balance between hop and malt. Pleasant to drink. Shows the difference between ale and lager, especially when similar products exist. Better than any pilsner of similar alcohol content.

Clear golden, big head. Grainy-perfumy nose, low intensity. Cereal grainy flavor, yeast character is neutral. Moderate bitterness, light bodied, rather neutral in character. Uninteresting sweetish finish.

Poured from the bottle, a clear light amber with a white bubbly head. Strong grassy hop aroma with just a hint of citrus in the background. A smooth buttery mouthfeel, with a buttery fruit flavour, the finish only having a touch of that bitterness. Quite pleasant.

Bottle (Waitrose): Pale high carb yellow, with a lasting white head. Simple cleanish malts, slightly fruity and biscuity. Balanced finish with a touch of lemon. Not bad.

Nose is a bit sour. Pours goldish yellow witha forthy whit ehead. Flavour is some honey, a hint of citrus, some malt, and some chemicals. Finish is sweet, but lingering mouthfeel is harsh from ver-carbing and leaves a slightly soupy taste. Ok, but not great.

.33L bottle from <a href=http://ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/oak-forest Liquor, Oak Forest, where they were $4 a 4-pack! All right, I think this may be the "Six" instead of the current Blonde, because the label looks more the one shown on another site. Date stamped "06/03," so this is probably past its time. Interesting pour: left three "bubble" films in the bottle. Pretty big old hops and sugar smell. Definitely unfiltered; a murky brown with lots of floaties. Can’t get much of a head up on this one beyond a little Champagne fizzle. Pilsner style malts that are starting to turn honey/sugary. Closer to a Belgian Blond in style, or even the Bier de Garde of its cousin. If you don’t know what to expect from this, as I didn’t it can be a bit of a rude suprise, but this might be good as a sweet after-dinner beer.
