Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Sebourg beer, this was rebaptized Saint Druon de Sebourg in 2000.
Malted barley and 3 varieties of hops grown in Alsace form the basis of this recipe, which, unlike Duyck’s other beers, also contains wheat from the Beauce region of France, milled in the traditional way by Sebourg’s miller. And to give it an even more distinctive flavour, the Duyck’s use a specific strain of yeast exclusive to the beer.
St. Druon de Sebourg is the French version of a blonde abbey ale, similar in style to those found across the nearby border in Belgium. It is spicy and effervescent, and much hoppier than typical bière de garde.

33 cl bottle. Poured hazy light amber with a frothy white head, leaving crosses of lacing. Aroma of yeasty dough with some apricot and orange. Flavor best described as orange scone--lightly sweet dough dotted with orange zest. Maybe some apricot as well. Slightly musty finish. Nothing offensive, though problematically the body and flavor is kind of muddled by a floury pastiness.

Clear yellow colour with a large frothy white head. Malty, sweet and fruity aroma with a vague acidic and floral note. Sweet fruity flavor with a perfume note. Light dry finish.

Cloudy amber appearance with a medium size, off white head and good lacing. Funky, yeasty aroma with fruity malts and a honeyish sweetness. Sweet malt taste, accented by crisp fruits, along with some spicyness. Tart, fairly dry finish. More appreciative of this one the 2nd time around.

Very light and extremely hazy in the glass with a fleeting head. Aromas are floral and spicy. A bit of hops and a hint of apricot on the flavor. Alcohol shows through a bit and it finishes sweet. Some bready aspects throughout. Not a bad biere de garde, but not a good one, either.

75 cl. It’s stale with a lot of carbonation and a weak aroma. The flavour is stale with weak floral notes of clover and citrus. Boring and I have to give up before the bottle is empty...

Dark gold, thin white suds. Some sesame nuttiness, metal and coriander in the nose. Quite a pleasantly dry, metallic, faintly spicy Belgian wannabe.

Bottle 12 oz. A hazed golden color with a white head. A sweet, honey and fruity apple aroma. Sickly sweet and rather annoying over ripe fruit flavors.

Pours a three finger white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Pale cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Sweet spicey nose. Has a sweet orange start, slight malty finish. Bottled Jul 2005. $1.39 for a 330ml bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, IA.
