Commercial Description:
A darker, slightly sweeter beer than its blond counterpart, Loterbol Bruin is a delicious strong Belgian ale, brewed in tiny batches at Belgium’s smallest brewery. Highly drinkable, even at 8% alcohol, this beer lives up to its name, which translates roughly to ’prankster.’ Unlike most Belgian beers of this strength, Loterbol Bruin is not loaded with candi sugar. It does not want for malty sweetness, but it is superbly balanced with enough hops to stand up to the high alcohol. A remarkable brew, if a difficult one to find . . . we bring in only about 60 cases a year.

Bottle. Wow! Brown and very dark, with a nice tan head. Only one word for the aroma and that is molasses. And a huge molasses aroma at that. Big malty fruty German Dunkel-like flavor. Take out the fruitiness and it is extremely German Dunkel like. Big dark malt flavors. Roasted malt finish. Don’t know why this is listed at 10% abv when it is only 8%. This is one fantastic brew!

33cl Bottle from Achelse Kluis. Deep dark brown colour, big thick dense creamy beige head. Aroma of sweet malts and dark fruits, musty yeast. Flavour is sweet malts, dark fruits, grapes, yeast, light tart, some chocolate, some alcohol, light bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied, firm but subtle carbonation that tingles the tongue. Has some St.Bernardus Abt qualities, tries to be that beer imo, but fails unfortunately. Doesn’t make this a bad beer, on the contrary, just not great.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. Pours dark cloudy brown with big dark beige head... keeps a thinner head after it recedes. Lovely nose of sweet malt... dark caramel, some toffee, and sweet grain (in a good way). Not cloying by any means. Mild hop presence, but it’s all about the complex malt. Lively but not prickly palate. Lovely.

6th May 2008. Brown beer with mixed caramel and coca cola notes. An underlying bitterness that is quite subtle. Drinkable.

Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured hazy brown color with a large frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

33cl bottle @ DHVL. Pours dark brown with a large fluffy and creamy white foam and lacings. Taste is rotten vegetables - probably the yeast. Caramel, earth and something which reminds me of smoke. Quite rotten and bad.
