Notes of chocolate and caramel. A bit more edgy than their Marzen, but with some lovely flavours. bhensonb (2861), Woodland, California, USA Nov 11, 2007 Aroma of dark toasted malt. Near opaque black color with a minimal off-white head. A bit thin in body with mild but assertive carbonation. It is very smooth. The flavor is mellow dark toasted malt. Not at all harsh. The finish is very slightly sweet (like dark fruit), mostly toasty. Could be a light stout. Davecooks (1142), Bay Area, California, USA Oct 1, 2006 Draft. Dark chocolate color with an ivory head. Toast and fruit aromas. Cola and Toasted malt flavors. Notes of prunes and burnt sugar.
smcd (363), USA Mar 12, 2006 (Draft.) A fine schwarzbier. Deep, deep brown, approaching black. Big, tan head. Roasted, coffee, and somkey/tobaccor aromas. Very, very smooth with hints of rich, dark malts and a subdued, but present (and pleasant) hoppiness. bb (2088), Martinez, California, USA Mar 17, 2005 Draft. Mahogony color with a beige head. Smokey malt aroma. Smooth with some smoked malt and caramel backing. No harsh flavors.
