egajdzis (3065), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 [Draft @ EB+B] Poured a lightly hazy, dark golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked wood, toasted malts, wheat, citrus, and light toffee. Taste of smoked malts, almonds, toasted malts, and grainy, toffee notes in the end.
puzzl (1892), New York, New York, USA Nov 18, 2008 Tap at the Blind Tiger. Exciting to see this stuff showing up outside of the brewery already. However the beer was very disappointing. Dead pour, ugly orange, no head. Aroma is hammy, meaty, freshly lit matches. Some dry smoke and tar flavor is met with a surprising amount of bright hops that clashes with the smoke. Like a hoppy version of cinderbock. Very meh. JB175 (1406), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 26, 2008 Amber color with a medium head. Aroma is big and smokey with some roast, BBQ, and sweet wheat. Flavor is dynamite! Awesome roasty flavor with some light wheat and lots of BBQ/grill tastes. Smooth and satisfying finish. Would be awesome just on taste alone, but it could be the best 4% ABV (or less) beer ever. I love this stuff! Dickinsonbeer (2554), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2008 Pours a deep coppery amber with a nice carbonationa nd fluffy slightly off white head- somewhat diminishing. Aroma is nicely smokey with some good racuhmalt pressence- cindery like the cinder bock, earthy doughiness and a nice wheat yeast estery character Good doughy wheat mixed with campfire, and smoked meats- get a bit harsh but not too much in a bad way- estery fruity, and a raw smokey finish. Probably my favorite one so far from Tom. Great start. leftorium (4), South Riding, Virginia, USA does not count Oct 16, 2008 Thin white head over a golden amber, aroma’s a subtle, pleasant smokiness without any caustic notes of fakesmoke flavor. Smoky nose that lingers, eventually giving way to an earthy, wheaty aftertaste. I’ll have to visit Philly again soon to get more of this stuff. blipp (866), Grand Island, New York, USA Oct 15, 2008 Poured honey amber with a thin white head. The smoky aroma is nicely restrained and not at all overpowering. Also has fruity and very light spicy notes. The flavor brings a nice smoky punch. Burlap, jerky, burnt wood. Hiding in the background is wheaty malt and a fair amount of hops that linger awhile after the smoke has left. Very good.
