pantanap (784), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2008 750ml bottle (494/1300) 2006 vintage....poured a cloudy dark garnet reddish brown with a long, withstanding and immense light tan head.... sacharine aroma with dark fruits, sweet caramel, and sticky toffee....flavors started off sweet, almost cloyingly so but a little aging smoothened it out and it became quite drinkable. really sweet dark fruits and caramel malt with only a trace of hops towards the finish. creamy full mouthfeel yet didn’t bog the palate down. this one truly was a pleasant surprise.
The_Epeeist (979), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 25.4 oz bottle, 2006. Dark but clear rosy brown with a coating, bubbly tan froth. Gets cloudy. Nose is caramel, honey and clove with light floral. Thick and chewy; seductively melts away with each sip leaving airy alcohol. Taste is woody butterscotch, melon and strawberry with smooth bitter citrus peel to balance. Earthy and lucious. Not too sweet. lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bottle shared by thickfreakness. Thanks dude!
Pours a really rich, dark and hazy toffee color with a short lived beige head. Smell is really malty, rich, like melted caramel, and has that "aged" mellowed smell to it as well. Taste is creamy, rich caramel, but balanced by a nice light hop presence to make it very drinkable and enjoyable. Nice warm and toasty bread flavor to go along with the sweetness of the malt. Pretty good stuff. Beerded_one (1609), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle. #1059/1300 06 Pours a hazy dark copper color with a two finger off-white head and has great lacing. Aroma is caramel, fruity esters, toffee, figs, and some floral notes. Flavor is smooth and creamy with caramel sweetness, brown sugar, dried fruit, toffee, and a hint of raisins. Medium to full bodied with a nice alcohol warming finish. juiceisloose (338), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 2006 vinatge bottle courtesy beerlando. This one pours a dark hazy orangish brown color with a small foamy tan head. The aroma is full of dark fruits, sweet caramel and toffee malts, oaky vanilla, and some hops. The flavors continue the same way with the fruits and sweet caramel and toffee up front with a good amount of hops lending bitterness and spices to the taste. The oak seems to mellow things out, but there is still a good amount of bitterness on the backend. There is a good amount of alcohol heat there as well. The body is full with a smooth mouthfeel with good carbonation. There is a bitter sweet finish with some heat added as well. The alcohol was hidden pretty well for being so high, which leads to easy drinkability. This was a solid barleywine.
