mannika (94), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 29, 2009 Pours a hazy golden white. Aroma is a typical weissbier aroma - sweet, spicy and floral, with a bit of bubblegum. Flavour is subtle and refreshing, with the sweetness and bubblegum coming through again. Palate is clean with a good amount of carbonation. Overall quite nice. Kestral (100), Oslo, Norway Jun 25, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy light yellow, generous amount of white frothy lacing and a big white head. Aroma is lemony, spicy, with a lot of fruity aromas. A bit on the perfumy side. Flavour is artificial berries, banana, spices and a bit too sweet and perfumy for my tastes. It’s sort of all wrong yet tasty at the same time. Mouthfeel is good, round and creamy. Savvy1982 (113), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Jun 23, 2009 Pours a cloudy lemon-yellow, with a great thick white head that gradually reduces to a ring, with nice lacing. Nose is lemon, wheat malt, spun sugar, banana. The lemon smells candied, but in a very good way. Palate is lemon candy, bubblegum, cotton candy, and spice. Does not have the mouth-coating feel of most weisse beers, finishes crisp and clean instead. I have always had a soft spot for this beer. Glad to see it stands up now that I’ve finally rated it. Cole (150), , Alberta, Canada Jun 22, 2009 Pours hazy yellow, almost no head. Aroma is light , citrus, yeast and spicy. Flavour of wheat malt, spices, orange peel and bananas. Smooth and fresh as snow. Archibaldo de la Cruz (307), Finland Jun 22, 2009 Bottle. Hazy yellow colour with a medium white head. Citrus and wheat in the aroma. The flavour is citric wheat with some spices, yeast and herbs. Quite thin-bodied and highly carbonated. Good, refreshing beer. Vertical Bacon Strips (581), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 14, 2009 With the fancy bottle and advertised addition of Alpine herbs, honestly, I didn’t give this much of a chance, but I was totally wrong. The beer is obviously not a Krystal Weisen due to the thick, cloudy gold appearance. Poured out a nice white foamy cap but it sizzled down to a light skim and ring with some light ropy lacing. The aroma is mainly lemony cirtus, wheat, cloves and bananas (well blalanced) but if you breathe deep you can notice a faint medicial scent. Very refreshing! Taste is really clean with no overpowering flavours. Quite wheaty overall albiet not strong. I’m losing flavour as this warms...or is it the herbs that are numbing my taste buds? Some vanilla, clove and a touch of banana linger and an obvious tart flavour. Medium light bodied, fairly creamy and highly carbonated. Dry and tart finish and a mouthfeel that does not let you forget the beer too quickly. The tartness is close to a bitter feel but doen’t quite make it there. Way more enjoyable colder as it was better and more intriguing early on. Interesting, mild and refreshing. Diogène (473), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 13, 2009 Hazy pale yellow with a huge foamy head with great retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is wheat, herbs, banana and cloves. Flavor is sweeter than expected with wheat, banana esters, herbs and spices. Body is a little thin. Very refreshing. Cirrhosis (550), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 8, 2009 Yellowy beige gold body and was a little more then hazy but not really cloudy in the body so I don’t think you can really call this a true krystal weizen but at least there were no visible chunkies, a good quarter inch cap was produced that lasted pretty much the entire brew and left curtains of lacing behind. Aroma is nice and complex keeping me interested in the beer; soap, banana, wheat, perfume, and tons of lemon make up the nice aroma and it was relatively strong without being overbearing I liked it. Dam it that soapy smell comes through pretty strong in the taste not a fan of this, wheat yeast and lots of lemon make up most of the flavor and it has a good banana finish. You can really taste the herbs they have added to the mix I’m not sure what they are but it tastes a lot like jager. Good tasty and very unique I’m glad I tried it, it’s not overly mind blowing but for a change and to try something a little different this works nicely.
