Has an earthy carmel malt smell w/ a hint of piney hops. Mouthfeel was rather thin. Tasted of roasted carmel barley w/ a nice lingering hoppy finish - really quite enjoyable. This is my 1st organic beer an I enjoy ambler ales. This is an above average amber ale, very pleasant, not overboard on alcohol content. Very malty flavor, nice toffee, some light chocolate, sweet but not overly so. Mildly smoky and peaty, bit Irish Red-esque. Great palate, very rich and creamy. For something labeled an "amber", quite good. gwfrankpsu (231), McKinleyville, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 7, 2009 Eel River Certified Organic Amber Ale is a clear red ale with a thin, eggy white head that leaves very good lacing. It smells malty and slightly sweet; fresh and herbal. It’s medium bodied and very smooth with a lively finish. It’s well balanced and pretty dry. It gets minty toward the finish. It seems like it was made for sessioning. Served in a mason jar at Farmer Brown’s in San Francisco. hayduke (1677), Eureka, California, USA

This shows you don’t have to get cute to make a very good amber ale . A multiflavored ale, with hints of fruits, nuts, hops.and malt. Very smooth, and easy to drink. I liked it a lot.

Feb 24, 2007 Update: Been a while since I first rated this so I thoiught an update was in order. This is on-draft poured into a 16 oz glass from the brewpub in Fortuna, CA. Very clear amber color wtih a nice creamy off-white head. There is probably nothing like getting organic beers nice and fresh, and this was as fresh as you can get. While I not a big fan of ambers, this one had a great nose of caramel and hops. Smooth mouthfeel and nice tasee for an amber. Flavor was of malts, hops, and the finish was just slighty bitter. Again, I don’t know why more places don’t serve this. It is heads and shoulders above most other ambers. i have noticed a couple of recent raters have had problems. I wonder if you need to keep this cold or it might go bad. omnivore (270), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 31, 2004 Pours a nice ruddy copper color with a thin white head that evaporates relatively quickly. In the bottle, the aroma is pretty inconcequential, but once poured, it’s malty and VERY grassy. The flavor is VERY complex. It hits with a light nutty taste that opens up into a bitter hoppy smack which slowly fades away. But don’t take the second sip too fast, because once that bitter is gone, the nutty comes back stronger than before. It’s pretty cool!
