ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA May 26, 2008 Bomber poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of cocoa, light earthiness and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cocoa, roastiness, light vanilla and a hint of licorice with a smooth malty finish. Not bad but one of the more boring Impy Stouts I’ve tasted. Aquilo (248), California, USA May 19, 2008 Red-brown, almost black, with a huge fluffy off-white head. I want to give this a better rating, because it’s not bad, and I do love imperial stout. Trouble is, this one has very little smell or flavor. The smell is more earthy than other imperial stouts. I guess I could call it a dark earthy baking chocolate. Flavor is about the same, but with some sour espresso notes. Medium bodied. Kind of a let-down. Oh, well. Ando (105), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 19, 2008 *did not mind would not buy*
aroma: smells of dragons breath incense and hair salon stink. very ren fest type smell. drak spice earth smell. App: brown. black. not opaque. Flavor: thin mild soy earth. very drinkable. got some coffee hints, some sour bad bottle but not to much. nice. palate: fine. OA: good not great easy goin though. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 13, 2008 Bomber. Poured medium-deeper ruddy brown with a cap of deep tan head. The aroma picked up deeply-roasted yet sweeter coffee (perhaps some lactose sweetness in there).. toffee and caramel roll in behind, picking up some baker’s chocolate at the back.. sweeter overall with moderate roast and nice balance. The flavor was more about the roasted coffee with a sweeter chocolate and caramel appeal on the edges.. the back-end found a milky, almost oaty sweetness.. warm coffee and chocolate on the finish. Heavier-bodied and grainy on the palate with the alcohol well-masked.. higher carbonation.. just an OK feel and flow. This was a decent impy stout that I’d gladly drink again. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA May 9, 2008 Decent sized head of light brown bubbles. Dense and creamy. Minimal carbonation. Rich roasty aroma with lots of dark chocolate, mild coffee and some roasted malts. Perhapse a bit of lactose. Color is essenially black. Silky smooth and creamy in the mouth. I wonder if this is nitrogen infused in the bottle. It would seem so. Lots of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Rich and roasty. Finishes silky smooth and creamy with a lingering coffee flavor. A decent impy but leans a little heavy on the coffee which is not to my taste. Still a solid and silky smooth brew. Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA May 6, 2008 Smells like a fresh brewed pot of coffee. If I paid closer attention and saw this was organic, I never would’ve ordered it. Just don’t care for the organic stuff. Anyway, no lasting head to speak of and not much depth of flavor. A little roasty. Little bit to boozy for my taste. Not terrible but not great either. My aroma rating will skew this one’s rating higher than it deserves but whatever....... santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2008 Pours a dark mahogany with a thin tan head that disappears quickly. The smell is strong with chocolate, roasty, and coffee aromas, but it smells overly burnt with a strong soy sauce background, which comes out more as it breathes. The taste is much better than the smell. Strong coffee and espresso flavors, with a silky smooth body. Very roasty and burnt, the focus obviously being the malts. This is a pretty decent Imperial Stout that’s kinda interesting to drink. Most RIS you have are hopped to hell - this one is barely even bitter. While it somewhat fails in it’s delivery, the focus on the roasted malts makes this a joy to drink, but not more than one. Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 15, 2008 Pours a very dark mahogany color with a nearly black center. A small, frothy tan head settles quickly to a thin film, leaving minimal spotty lacing behind. The nose shows alot of sweet caramel and nougat, dark chocolate, anise, and a touch of mocha. Flavors continue the theme, falling on the sweet side of roasty. The caramel component is huge, outweighing even the chocolate and coffee. Goes down so easy, the 9.5% is barely detectable. Medium-plus bodied, incredibly smooth, and easy to drink. Not out of this world, but a very solid and tasty brew nonetheless.
