fidel (882), Livermore, California, USA Jan 13, 2009 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Pours dark brown/black, coffee, dark chocolate, nutty, roasted malts, little alcohol. scrizzz (1246), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 9, 2009 Some blackened roast through the nose, but i seriously cannot detect much here, even warmed up. Some roasted coffee. Thick mousse slightly sandy head, in all purposes this is a black beer until you put it right up to the light, then a bit of maroon comes through. Mouthfeel is oily and the heat never gets out of control, though it does mask some flavor. That slick character carries the soft Turkish coffee flavors throughout the mouth and keeps everything creamy. Is that the nitro conditioning? The heat on this young beer damages my rating but I really dig the party in my mouth. Does that even make sense? Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 9, 2009 In short: A boring roasted dark beer.
How: Bottle. Age unknown, most likely fresh. Tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Dark brown body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Standard roasted malts with toffee and some brown sugar. A little floury. Residual sugar level is a bit annoying especially considering the subtle (to say the least) hops presence. Finish has some roastiness and some brown sugar. No alcohol presence and that’s about the only real quality of this brew. No complexity or richness here. The beer is not tasty at all and is actually surprisingly bland despite its high gravity. Yet another overrated impy stout on ratebeer. Ratebeer’s ratings on Imperial Stouts are as reliable as trustable as the site itself. Because these days Ratebeer… Virus check complete… all viruses functioning normally... anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Jan 8, 2009 Draft @ Eel River. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma with some alcoholic hints. Warming roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor. Has a long warming roasted malty espresso finish with some hints of chocolate in the aftertaste aswell. Delirium (495), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bomber. Pours dark brown / black, with a moderate brown head. Aroma is rich espresso and lots of chocolate, with some roast-to-burnt malt. Flavor is roast malt with some milk-chocolate sweetness, and hint of liquorice. Hint of alcohol all around, and a velvety mouthfeel. Pretty good, for one of the sweeter imperial stouts; sort of like a "bigger" version of a normal sweet stout. alexsdad06 (1055), Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a large creamy tan head. The aroma has a large dose of roasted malts, caramel, dark chocolate, and slight char. The flavor is again heavy on the roasted malt. Other flavors are dark chocolate, espresso, some dark fruit, and a hint of alcohol. This is a solid, yet unspectacular stout. Medium bodied, leans to the dry side, fairly smooth going down. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bottle shared by eyedrinkale. Deep brown-black beer. Aroma is light and cocoaish. Softly sweet with a nice chocolate syrup flavour. Sweet with a lightly earthy flavour. It’s quite light for an impy, but it’s a decent stout. drfabulous (1211), Columbia, Missouri, USA Dec 27, 2008 Light bodies. Bit of cola. Carbonated a bit too much. I do not get the espresso or coffee in the description. Not intense enough for my taste I like a more solid Imperial Stout.
