The aroma is sweet, chocolate, coffee, light fruit, and alcoholic. The flavor is smokey/roasted, bakers chocolate, coffee, light fruit/citrus, with alcohol at the end. More shows up with warmth. Not hidden well for the abv. The palate was a little thin to be perfect. The palate is roastey and warm. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Very balanced quite elegant beer, not standing out in any way, but very well made and elegant. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 500ml bottle scooped up in Milwaukee. Opaque black, maybe a hint of brown. Big rusty beige head. Solid chocolate aroma, like hot cocoa with a touch of hoppy astringency. Damn, this beer is quite nice and mellow for the ABV. Silky, creamy mouthfeel. There is some hoppy bitterness up front, but fades into a sweet chocolate finish. You get hints of the high alcohol every so often, but overall quite nice and dangerously sessionable. Well done. Smells nicely of milk chocolate and maybe a splash of coffee. Interesting flavors of molasses, brown sugar, milk chocolate, and damn little coffee....maybe some dirt. Very smooth palate edging on creamy. A bit syrupy, but not much alcohol noticed here. Pretty decent, better than I anticipated.
