This review may be tilted as I was able to enjoy a stein fresh from the brewery with the Master Brewer in the brewery tap. A big favorite of mine. Far better than their regular pils, this bier adds more hops (Hallertauer pellet) and the finished beer shows it. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA

It led me to believe that Pils in the more austere Rheinland style was perhaps better than I thought. Having always admired the Einbecker Maibock, I was shocked upon later purchases to find that the Pils weren't nere so grainy as I first thought--actually, there's a ton of sweet pale malt here, followed by flowery hops, then a really substantial hop bite to end it. I was astonished by how much the malt profile resembled the Maibock, though this one had a tiny bit of DMS (a bad flavor, perfectly placed here). Wow. What a tremendous Pils.
Old: This is the pils that has made me reconsider the style. I have always thought of pils as a bit too austere, and in keeping with its North German heritage, a bit S&M--teasing and hinting at what it has and what it won't give you. This Saxon pils is certainly austere: very hoppy with light malt and a grainy/hoppy finish. But it is really something special. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA

Flavor had a slight metallic off note, but other than that, excellent. Very good find if you can get it fresh. McWorta (39), Luxembourg

Soft sparkling with a white head, bitter and a bit sour in taste. Thin but nice texture fizzy on the palate light to medium body. Crisp refreshing taste. Relative long full aftertaste.
A beer to welcome frineds or very well for afterwork pint(s), Hildigöltur (5109), København, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2002 Big head that gave off a slightly sulfury nose. Light gold color – I was hoping for something a little darker. A light malt character comes through, but the taste is mainly decent hoppyness. Smooth at first, then a bitter in the end and kinda dry. Goes with all kinds of food, particularly pizza and pub grub. Nice brew that is up there with Jever and Pils Urquell (-> see my reviews). mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA
