There are great doppelbocks, and there are the plain old workaday bocks. This one works very well. Light color for its style, with an uncomplicated "beer" smell. Grainy and slightly roasty taste, with slight spiciness. Claims to have been one of the first Bocks, and that’s likely. Good basic spring-time beer. Furseth (1337), Kungälv, Sweden

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2006 05.11.06 .33l bottle. Dark and rusty blond color with lasting and lacing pale beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty with caramel and candy apples, fresh grains, mild tropical notes, and the beginnings of some oxidation (cardboard, sulfur hints). Body is full and lively with plenty of cleansing eff. Sweet up front, across the middle, and in the finish. I detect a juicy apple flavor throughout this beer with a light acidic tartness towards the end and spicy finishing bitterness. Some touches of mineral add an earthy quality that works with emerging (with temp) tropical touches. Ron (1039), Rochester, New York, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2006 Tap at Gingerman NYC. Pours a medium to deep gold almost a medium copper with a nice lasting thin white head. Aroma ia sharp sweet sticky light munich and pils malt, bready and a tough of fruity esters. Sweet and light caramel flavors, bready, light nuttiness, and a characteristic sharp malty finish in the end like many good mai-bocks. I thought this was well made and pretty easy to drink.
