Flavor has notes of chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, wheat, yeast and toasted malt. Pleasantly sweet but has plenty of bitter hops to balance it out. Alcohol and hop bitterness detected in the finish. Full bodied and flavorful. Body is full, round and thick with lively carbonation. Nice lacework, good head retention. Liked it. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2005 Bottle: Amber coloured, small but lasting white head; malty nose (caramel, burnt malts), also shy hoppiness; the initial, only in the very first beginning sweetish maltiness (chocolate) turns quickly into a dry, bitter, long lasting aftertaste. Well hidden alcohol, well rounded. A gem among the sweet, toffee-like bocks.... rudolf (1787), Buffalo, New York, USA

Caramel aroma leading to a hoppy palate with a lot of malt flavor, but without being too sweet. Some smokiness comes through in the finish. Incredible smooth mouth feel.
Bottle: Good, but not nearly as good as the one on tap. Tasty but ordinary. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 2, 2005 More bock than dunkel, but not even a very good bock, IMHO. Alcohol taste shows through, and the beer’s pretty fizzy. Cute stubby bottle, though. More bitterness than I expected. Best Dunkel I’ve had, anyway. Good beer to quaf. anders37 (4792), Malmö, Sweden

The aroma is sweet, caramel, raisins and malty. Taste is malty with hints of caramel and raisins. The aftertaste is quite bitter. This is a very good beer, one of my favourites.
