Nice field grass aroma, and harvested grains. Hoppy and sweet. Ooh, it gives me a hop-bitter zinger, that’s surprising. Goodness, there’s some yummy-gummy, tuti-fruti? The alcohol sucks in my cheeks. I like that mouthfeel. Pretty awesome, with a little numbness, fuzzy. I liked the schwarzbier better. This is a mouth-full though -- bitter and pinewood smoke, full mouth sweetness, alcohol dryness. Very nice. Bring on a phat stein and a plate of bierrocks with dark, horseradish mustard.

Bottled. Light amber coloured. Clear. Huge beige head. Dense. Aroma of some hay, way behind some alcohol, some light fruity and malt. Flavour is a bit more sharp. Metal, fruit, alcohol, and hops. Is a bit harsh. Ends on a alcoholbitter note with vague notes of apple.

Brown, very malty, with caramel, dark fruits (raisins), and alcohol shows up more than expected at only 6.5% ABV. My bottle shows "Best Before End: 09 12 02..." I sure hope that’s going by non-American datelines, else this bottle is old as hell! Anyway, enjoyed this one!

From a bottle at Old Heidelberg in Bethel, CT. Poured dark with an off-white head. Faint aroma. Taste is rich and malty, with some fruit character and a hop kick to the finish.

The apperance is murky brown. The aroma is chocolate, caramels, and nutmeg. The flavor is quite sweet with chocolate, caramel, raisin, nuts, and toffee. Quite complex and very Dunkel like. The aftertaste leaves a bit of a sugary something on your tounge. Very rich and flavorful not the least bit watery. Darn good if I may say so.

Nice clear amber with a creamy off white head that leaves some lacing in my glass. Stale bread and chocolate aromas, Sweet toast, caramel and nutty flavors, medium to full body with a full and soft mouthfeel, finishes with a lingering sweetness. Gets a little better as it warms, not bad.

Light brown thick head, slowly disappearinf. Dark brown body. very malty taste - this is not a beer for babies! Aroma full of nuts and a bit of caramel, con firmed by its flavour. Pretty strong taste feelings, stays with you for a while. A strong beer, not bad for an evening in town.

Bottle. Delicious smell of caramel, vanilla, grain, malt and raisens. Clear red color with a rocky off white head. Bracing, strong malty flavor with hints of the flavors detected in the aroma. Surprisingly bitter finish for the style. Overall unbalanced with a thin body. Perhaps better closer to home.
