mkel07 (494), Brisbane, Australia Nov 6, 2009 355ml bottle. Coppery brown in colour with a thin wispy beige head. Clear and moderately carbonated with an aroma of smoked woodchips that is not as strong as I expected. Tastes like a weak stout and does not have much of a smoke taste. Dry finish. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Nov 2, 2009 12oz bottle. Copper-brown with a weak head that just doesn’t want to stick around. There is definitely meaty smoke in the aroma with some dried fruit and caramel as well. Nice, but not a hit-over-the-head of smoke that some might hope for. The flavor is sweet with a dominant caramel touch and some woody smoke riding over it all. Medium bodied and a little syrupy with a touch too much carbonation. Malty, but the smoke adds a nice complexity to the flavor and aroma, making this pleasant, though a cleaner mouthfeel would help, and maybe a touch more dryness, hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA Oct 1, 2009 From the Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA this poured a dark copper with an off-white head and light lacing rings. The nose on this is caramel malts with some burnt aromas. Medium mouthfeel and body. Flavor is smokey caramel malt and the finish is dry. Pretty decent. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 20, 2009 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized yellow brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a transparent typically carbonated golden brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The mild aroma was smoky. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt hops and smoky. A decent one that I would consider buying again. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 28, 2009 12oz bottle. Poured a deeper and clear amberish/copper color wtih an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of smoked meats, caramel, and some earthiness. Tastes of smoke (although lighter than the aromas) and caramel. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Aug 1, 2009 12oz Bottle. A thin, grassy smoke rises from the glass. A bit of old bacon and wet charcoal bleeds through. Not particularly strong, but not limp either. Colored a copper bronze-orange-amber, with a thin tan rim. Flavor is decent and develops some tropical complexity following the limpid introduction of smoke. A crystalline, smooth sugar profile gently introduces a papaya-wood infused smoke character. Some ash, oak bark, and faint cashew climbs through. Balanced and delicate. A nip of alcohol, a touch of hops, and a nice lagery mouthfeel. A respectable, if still not fully smoked, lager. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 27, 2009 (bottle). Clear amber color. Small off white head. Smokey malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor with light smoke. Avg duration. Astringent finish. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Spare lacing.
