not much for smoked beers. this though was a quality beer IMHO and I rate it slightly above average from beer of the month club with a couple of bottles of the Eisenbahn Escura which I found to be wonderful.

Defunmada allright! Smells like dull bacon. Iced tea color. Ooooooh, smoky meat taste. Rude and over the top. Very unique, a rare taste in ale or lager. Strong and rude and distasteful, way to much sensory impact for my girlie taste buds. Too smoky with more charred personality. Less enjoyable than most stouts and porters. Overall, like many Eisenbahn, too much for the style. Almost makes my gag reflex kick in near the end of the session.

Transparent rust with a blonde sheen. Ivory head diminishes into a thick ring. Beefy yet well-integrated earthy beech-smoke aromas. Dates, molasses and a plummy fruitiness lurk in the background. Soft pricks of carbonation. Palate-adhering bready malt briefly stifles the acidity by lending its lush sweetness and supple earthen smokiness. Very sweet and starchy. Tingly sweep of alcohol invigorates the palate as does the subdued fruitiness. Deep and chewy malt frame is faintly biscuity and strawlike, and largely thwarts the fruitiness and dab of molasses. Finishes with a lingering datelike and caramelized pecan sweetness as pungently woody smoke remains in the forefront. Malt isn’t exactly squeaky clean here, nor is the nose (hints of plastic and medicine don’t help), but does exhibit considerable depth and complexity. Gotta say that the acidic carbonation (obviously forced) and fruitiness is also a bit of a detraction. A clean pinch of hop bitterness would likely enhance the experience as the beer is quite sweet. Pretty good but could very easily be great with some minor adjustments.

Smokey! Pours dark amber with a medium foamy off-white head. Smells like the smoked almonds I’m also enjoying, but not much else. 4-6 C degrees (39-42 F) is pretty cold. This is my first smoked so for me this is a gracious amount of smoke flavor. Light caramel malts underneath very very light hops. Very drinkable though with a fluffy airy body. I’ll try some more smoked and get back to this one...

Bottled, courtesy of omhper. Mahogany coloured with a low white foam. Smokey aroma of reminiscent of Schwarzwald ham and fudge. Salty and smokey flavour of bacon and caramel. creamy mouthfeel with a medium body. Finishes smokey with a solid sweet malt base of caramel, hints of salt. Good!

Bottled. Dark amber, creamy beige head. Smokey sausage aroma. Sweet and creamy, very soft, with beechwood smoke covered in toffee and caramel. Low bitterness. Well structured.

Good smoked lager, though it tends to get a little heavy to drink towards the end, as the smoky caramelly malts build up. A little too sweet.

12 oz. bottle via trade with DragonStout Another end of the Tasting beer. Pours an amber color with a small off white head. Aroma and flavor is as advertised, smoky. Medium body. This was a very good smoked beer. Just wish I could remember it better. Thanks Brian.
