Aroma: caramel, toffee, soft smoked, toasted sugar, vanilla and honey’s smells.
Flavour: sweet caramel malts start; candy, honey, vanilla and smoke-caramel touches. Cigarettes aromatised with chocolate reminiscences. Fruitiness similar to raisins, dried-peaches and stone-peaches. Slightly nutty. Candy and smoky aftertaste.
Palate: light to medium body. Low carbonated.
Some unbalanced and smoked touch slightly artificial. Dorwart (1814), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 27, 2007 Decent sized off-white head of fine bubbles. Nice smokey aroma with some sweet malts and vegetal aromas. Maybe some honey. Color s a very nice reddish brown. Sweet and malty flavor with some more smokey notes and some crusty bread and roasted grains. Finishes sweet with a lingering dry malty aftertaste. Smoke notes fade fast in the brew. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Mmm. Feels like a marzen as the base beer. Deep ruddy coppy color, moderate head. Big initial smoke aroma with layers of heavy melanoidiny malts beneath. Notes of dark heavy breads and orange cake. Flavor quite similar, slick with a caramelized heavy sweetness and a smoky bite throughout. Lingering sweetness is almost cloying but not quite. Very well done! awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2007 From a 12oz Bottle, Batch 05. Pours a mostly transparent, dark copper amber color with a thick layer of creamy off-white head. Rich, bready malt aroma with a mild, yet pleasant smoke character. There’s also some notes of toasted hazelnuts and mild toffee. Very clean and malty, but it would be nice to have a bit more smoke. Medium light bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a bit of a creamy texture. A bit more bamburg smoke presence on the tongue, accompanied a deeper, almost peat-smoke character. Notes of pumpernickel bread crust, bready with just a hint of molasses. Biscuity, almost like a teething biscuit. A mild herbal bitterness lingers in the finish. The malt flavors are quite tasty, but it could be a bit drier to improve drinkability, although it’s not too sweet palate-wise. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2007 12-oz. Thanks, Boboski! Pours a beautiful glowing rubied amber with a thin off-white moussy head. Very little lace. Peat and caramel and a wee trace of campfire on the nose. Medium body, very clean and tidy and well-organized with just the right grace note of carbonation showing through. Caramel on the mid-palate, accompanied by a light sweet bacony smokiness with some peat. Clingy tart brown bread finish. Interesting beer. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2007 A fizzy khaki head fully dissipates quickly. The body remaining is a dark, translucent amber with glod fleck and sunset orange hues. A very pretty, deep shade, looks like a crisp rauchbier. The nose is moderately smoky, enough that most everything besides soft but adequately toasted grains are obscured. Medium-high sweetness and ample caramel, and then some, are noted. Mild hints of dried apricots and even lesser notes of varying other fruits are mild and provide a soft exoskeleton to the smoke that might otherwise seem a bit acrid. The flavor is mildly to moderately smoky with a fresh grain sweetness of a medium-high level. Bitterness is low and grassy. Toasted grain and caramel comprise the remainder. Alcohol is ever-so-slightly noticeable and lightly warming in a semi-sweet and smoky finish that only dries a touch very late after each sip. The mouthfeel is prickly with sparse carbonation, medium in body, somewhat sticky and syrupy but never cloying. The entire texture is very oily, too much so. Tasty. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2007 Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper colored pour, tight spritzy white head. Smoked meat and oysters in the aroma which is surprisingly not cloying. Gentle smoke on the flavor, not cloying or overdone - reminds me of beef jerky. Some nuttiness, and surprisingly a hint of chocolate. Clean, even mouthfeel. Overall, pretty solid.
