Commercial Description:
Eisenbahn’s Defumada, very much like the famous smoked lagers of Bamberg, Germany, is brewed with a special, smoked barley malt, giving it a rich, smoky flavor and aroma. A delicious and immensely satisfying lager.
Ideal temperature: from 4 to 6 degrees

A fizzy khaki head fully dissipates quickly. The body remaining is a dark, translucent amber with glod fleck and sunset orange hues. A very pretty, deep shade, looks like a crisp rauchbier. The nose is moderately smoky, enough that most everything besides soft but adequately toasted grains are obscured. Medium-high sweetness and ample caramel, and then some, are noted. Mild hints of dried apricots and even lesser notes of varying other fruits are mild and provide a soft exoskeleton to the smoke that might otherwise seem a bit acrid. The flavor is mildly to moderately smoky with a fresh grain sweetness of a medium-high level. Bitterness is low and grassy. Toasted grain and caramel comprise the remainder. Alcohol is ever-so-slightly noticeable and lightly warming in a semi-sweet and smoky finish that only dries a touch very late after each sip. The mouthfeel is prickly with sparse carbonation, medium in body, somewhat sticky and syrupy but never cloying. The entire texture is very oily, too much so. Tasty.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Medium copper colored pour, tight spritzy white head. Smoked meat and oysters in the aroma which is surprisingly not cloying. Gentle smoke on the flavor, not cloying or overdone - reminds me of beef jerky. Some nuttiness, and surprisingly a hint of chocolate. Clean, even mouthfeel. Overall, pretty solid.

Bottle... Clear, deep amber lager with copper highlights and a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. Smoky bacon nose isn’t overbearing, but does restrain the caramel and toffee notes that would otherwise stimulate my olfactory system like a Märzen. Sweet, smoky flavor with gobs of caramel and toffee. Super light acidity and extremely low bitterness. Medium to full-bodied and sticky with middling carbonation. Sweet, caramel and smoke finish.

12oz bottle. Pours brilliant amber with a moderate sized tan head that fades rapidly. Smoky, peaty aroma with some underlying caramel and malt. Malt is more in the forefront of the flavor, with smoke, grain and caramel in the background. Finishes sweet, with some fruit and chocolate.

Bottle. Amber red with a small head. Aromas are weetabix malts with dark syrup and toffee. Herbal, sweet and smoky with some oatiness. Flavours are toffee and caramel malts with sweet caramelised pear. Floral and herbal with decent smokiness.

Bottle. Purs with more of a copper color. Aroams of bacon and smoke. Flavors are not as strong as the aroma would suggest. This beer is buttery, with a nice touch of smoe and bacon and added caramel and toffe notes. Very smooth but not nearly as intense as the Bamberger original.

Bottle. High creamy off-white lasting head. Clear amber body. Acidic and of course smoky aroma. Heavily carbonated but otherwise smooth and mild caramel flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness. Not much smoke flavor. Short aftertaste.

Bottle . Brown beer with a light head. The aroma is well smoked and the flavour is lightly smoked, slightly malty and dry. Overall an average smoked beer.
