It’s been even longer since I’ve hda a beer from Brazil. I never woulda guessed. Clear amber, fairly large head with decent lacing and retention. Almost gushed a little out of the bottle, but not quite. Aroma is obviously smoked malt with notes of caramel, bread, more smoke. Medium body, leans towards malt as there is little to no hop bitterness. Very drinkable and refreshing. Doesn’t have the full package that some of the other examples have, but this was hella better than expected. ChainGangGuy (2619), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA

Appearance: Pours a clear, effervescent amber body with a thin, fizzy white head.
Smell: Aroma of barley and smoked salmon with a hint of sliced pears.
Taste: Caramel maltiness with a sweet, spritzy apple and pear juice addition. Then it’s the smokiness, which, when compared to so many other smoked beers comes off as quite mild. Light pinch of spicy hops near the otherwise sweet, smokey finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Moderate carbonation. Very slight stickiness.
Drinkability: A restrained, even sensible smokiness for an altogether balanced beer. I never thought I’d use the word "sensible" when describing a rauchbier, but there it is. goldtwins (4086), Nesconset, New York, USA

A moderate amount of smoke in the aroma. Sit on the malt but you can still get good malt in the nose. Malty flavor with a smoky middle and finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Clear, dark, burnt-orange amber body with a small, foamy white head. The head settles to a wispy film with a prominent edge after a few minutes. Random, spotty lacing dots the glass. The aroma shows salty, smoked pork (yes....pork) over a lightly toasted caramel malt base. The flavor is moderately smoky up front, with sweet caramel malts, a touch of honey, and a light, peppery spiciness showing on the back end. The smokiness is very nice, and not at all obtrusive to the other flavors. Medium-light bodied and very smooth. The light saltiness tempts the tastebuds to drink more and more. Solid beer, and very sessionable. polomagnifico (535), Saginaw, Michigan, USA

Dark amber hue with a small offwhite head that mostly diminished. Lively carbonation and watery light bodied. I liked the the tasted and smell, not bad at all. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA

Pretty big smoke aroma, some bacon breakfast and malt are definitely present too. Theflavor is semi-sweet, pretty big malt character, some molasses, and the big smokiness as well. Nothing too overpowering in the flavor, balanced well, almost like a session smoke beer. has some campfire flavors in the aftertaste, along with some sweetness. Solid smoke beer. badlizard (2394), Berkeley, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2007 Bottle from State Line. Clear burnt umber pour with 2-finger off-white head. Nice smoked malt aroma, with some faint hopcitrus, and balanced caramelly aromas. Heavy smoked malt flavor, but backed up and balanced nicely by the caramelly flavor, with some slight hop notes noted. Well balanced with a medium palate heft. If you like rauchbiers, you’ll like this one.
