Vigorous pour into a large fluted snifter yields a big fluffy tan head above a very nice deep amber beverage. Aroma is an interesting mix of smoked malts and ripe fruits, is that candied pears mixed in there? Very well balanced smokiness with a great malt profile and just a hint of hoppiness. Quite possibly the most balanced Rauchbier out there, I appreciated not being beat over the head with the smokiness. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 30, 2007 Pours clear and red. Aroma of hickory smoke with crab meat, oak, and bacon. Tangy lemon and orange dusted lean meat on the tongue with a kind of bitter mineral flourish. Iron. It has a bit of barrel aged attitude in sour, hot whiskey notes and wet peat smoke. Just a touch of salt and almond sweetness. Barbecue wood left to rot and sausage grease. Texture is heavier than expected, and highlights the metallic twinge of lager. Simplistic. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Bright golden-brown. Rich cold-smoke...deep earthy caramelly malts as well. The body is somewhat slick and caramelly, with a smokey signature. I love the smoke but the underlying lager lacks that certain something...I don’t like the caramel and it doesn’t work well with the smoke. roder60 (1030), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 21, 2007 Tried this soley because it was from brazil. Aroma sweet and slightly oaky and burbony. Flavor like sweet molases and oak. Kinda harsh and overly malty like a scotch ale gone bad. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2007 From a twist-off 12 oz. bottle, batch number (06) along the right side of label, sampled in a stein glass.
Poured a transparent reddish amber with fluffy beige head, good retention, slowly dissipates into a thin creamy lacing.
Heavenly smells of smoked pork and barley, hints of caramel, faintly apple and grape fruity.
Moderate carbonation and a fullish feeling body, lightly slick in the palate, mildly smoked malts, barley, grains and caramel, a subtle apple and pear fruitiness, a trace of spicy hops with a brisk bite towards the end, estery alcohol becomes noticeable too, a dry, slightly smokey, sweet malty finish, refined and refreshing. This is the second beer I’ve had from this Brazilian brewery and I am now wondering if they have a special water source, the website doesn’t provide a lot of info, but I detect a certain mineral quality to this as well, like you get with many British and European ales and lagers.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Thanks to Shigadeyo for trading this one to me. Pours a darkish copper and has a small light tan head. Aroam is wet wood, light smoke and malts. Very earthy and mossy. The aroma takes on a pretty big smokiness however. Also woody malts and nuts. Finish is slightly bitter. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2007 Bright, clear copper color with a taller ecru head. Sweet malt and lightly grilled cedar planks in the aroma. Quite simple scent, but honest. Light caramel start, with a light herbal and mild smoke influence. Not the full meaty smoke flavor, more a light sidebar. A decent Oktoberfest with a hint of smoke. dmac (1503), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2007 12 oz bottle shared with willblake and Dickinsonbeer. Poured an orangey/reddish/amber with an average white head. Aroma was lots of smoke with a sweet honey type aroma. Palate was very pleasant with a light body and some noticable carbonation that made this very quaffable. Flavor was lots of smoke with some woody notes and a lingering smokiness. This was one great beer and only enhanced by the fact that it ws from...........BRAZIL??? Wow first Jui Jitsu, then waxing and now beer. I love Brazil.
