The nose -is smoky malt for the most part. The taste is smoke, caramel and light breakfast meats. Light-to-medium bodied. Not great, but decent. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Bottle. Filtered, force-carbonated. Pours a rich ruby maple bacon brown with perfect clarity. A soft but dense looking ring of muddy-gray colored carbonation sits above. Nose is wonderfully snappy and rich maple-wood smoked ham with a slightly-too-sweet caramel glaze. Smoke character is integrated subtly and carefully to compliment the base lager which demonstrates the proper fullness of body expected in proper helles, though it does seem to have a resonant twang throughout the glass and throughout the drink. Still, few complaints, hits the spot. HogTownHarry (4006), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2009 Bottle (12oz). Bright ruby-amber with a large lasting frothy-creamy white head. Sweet mild roast grain aroma with some campfire and light bacon. Taste is sweeter, less smoke, but it’s there. Light, slightly syrupy body, a little still, and quick finishing. Tasty and simple - a good intro to a rauch for the uninitiated. jcwattsrugger (5374), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2009 little gusher, some foam came from the bottle, but I poured it quickly enough and it wasn’t a crazy amount. Ruby chestnut amber, clear, with a solid head that fell quickly to a sustainable film. Sweet honey applewood aroma. Good beer. Hell, it’s very good, while not terribly complex, it’s solid and tasty on it’s own with enough smoke to interest me and sustain. robertjm (406), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2009 Pours nice highly carbonated head. Lots of bubbles clinging to side of tulip glass I’m using. Head is large, but falls fairly fast. No lace to speak of. Ever so slight smoky aroma. Reminds me more of wet newspaper than malt. (The best description I could come up with). Dark brown body. Probably filtered. Flavor is clearly on the malt side of the spectrum with most smoke coming out quickly in the aftertaste as compared to some smoke beers I’ve had that blast smoke in the flavor. Pleasantly surprised. lithy (1725), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Light hazy brown-orange with a thin off white head. Light smokey bacon aroma. Taste is a nice solid smoke note with a harsh metal tang in the finish. Narnad (696), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Feb 16, 2009 Beer pours from the bottle a deep copper color, moderately thick white head while the beer has a very high carbonation rate to keep the head thick and full. Aroma has lots of roasted caramel malt with a moderate liquid smoke or smoked ham aroma at the tail of the sniff. The beer has a very quickly dissipating caramel sweetness which is over taken by the smoke and ham flavor. Once I got the idea that I was drinking a semi-ham flavor beer, it went down a bit slower. The beer as a whole is a nice surprise and pretty well done but I am going to note that I am not the biggest fan of Rauchbiers in general. I think it would do better complementing a meal instead of drinking it casually.
