Pours reddish copper, with a thin bit of foam. Plus a bonus appearance point for the cool label. Smoke aroma is understaed and not overbearing like some German rauchbiers. Some toasty, chocolatey notes come through, as well. Flavor is a nice mix of smoke, toast, mint (?), and pine and biscuit. Not bad at all. Ibrew2or3 (2761), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 24, 2008 Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours copper with a thin wisp of a white head. Well almost no head. The aroma has some sweet notes, hints of dark fruity esters and very mild smoke. The taste however is fairly bold, a bit overly bold considering this is a lager, with a sizeable smokiness up front backed by some sugar sweetness that slowly turns malty sweet into the finish. There’s just a faint note of noble hops way out in the back. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 11, 2008 Pours an orangey amber to copper with an average or so head, offwhite, thinning quickly. The nose is very smokey. A little bandaid, some small grapey fruit. Small bacon, mostly peaty. Rich malt. Very slight toast. Creamy substantial mouthfeel, smooth wit hsmall carbonation. Rich malty flavor with strong smoke. A bit of bacony sort of smoke, but a good deal more of the peat variety. A good deal of bandaid, a touch of grape. Some very strong lingering malt. A bit creamy. Some toast. A lingering peaty smoke and astringency. Not a bad beer, but I’m a sucker from the smoke RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Amber pour with a thin white head. Smokey malt nose. Flavor is lightly smoked caramel with a light hop finish. Not overpowering, subtle. I liked it. radiomgb (2000), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Orange-amber in colour with a thin off-white coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is only lightly smoked, sweet with some fruits. The flavour is of sweet smoke, caramel and grains. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium/light carbonation. Finishes with some light smoke and a lingering sweetness.
The smokes starts off light in this but seems to pick up a bit near the end. Its okay but a little sweet for my smoke beer tastes.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark copper. The aroma is modestly smoky with slight hints at meat, campfire, and tobacco. Defumada is a semi-sweet, humbly smoky beer. I find notes of burning leaves and a sweetness almost akin to sarsaparilla. Thankfully, none of the corny, generic lager tones I find in the weaker smoked lagers are here. So, in my opinion, this needs much, much more smoke. But it’s alright. blipp (1679), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours red amber with a fizzy off white head. Aroma is lightly smoked and a bit sweet. Flavor has smoke, peat, burnt wood and earth. Very nice. BillKismet (1944), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2008 This is indeed an immensely satisfying lager, though the smoked malt is understated. Pours a perfect amber pint with a suitable top. Pleasant amber malt aroma with hint of honey malt and some grain. Wonder malt flavor, akin to a good amber ale. Superbly crafted with a hint of smoke adding a complementary complexity.
