MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Aug 13, 2007 A Mes rate:
Bottle at GBBF. Dark chestnut colour with a head that fell pretty quickly. Smoky sweet malt and a little fatty. Slightly oily and a bit of caramel. Authentic dunkel but nothing too special. kyzr (1119), Belgrade, Montana, USA Aug 12, 2007 Dark brown pour, with brown frothy head. Toasted malt nose, with hints of coffee. Nice touch of sweetness, with a good bit of caramalized malt and touch of cocoa. Medium body and the flavor is full through the end. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 12, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Toasted bread and accompanying roastiness dwell in a wet, sly body, where earth-covered mushrooms slowly grow. Although there’s nothing special in its expression, this Dunkel is still a drinkable example of the style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There was barely a ring of foam around the brownish black.
-The mouthfeel is rather flat and frail, which is disappointing.
-Some wooden dryness accentuates the roast’s presence/bitterness in the finish.
-Caramel is found, supporting but not developing.
Bottle. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Aug 11, 2007 Bottle, August 07, thanks mazfln! Pours a clear, trasluscent, very dark brown color with red-burgundy hues and a medium, frothy cremé head.
Caramel aroma, some bready malts and a slight vinegary feeling. Toasty, caramel malts flavor. Very malty, sweet but retains it´s hedge with an interesting nutty-acidic end. Medium mouthfeel, firm malts and a warming, nutty aftertaste. A slightly sweet dunkel that manages to keep itself interesting enough. maeib (4677), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Aug 11, 2007 Bottled - GBBF 2007. A very dark brown coloured beer. Roasty dry fishy notes in the aroma. The taste is dry, fishy and oily. A decent dunkel with above average roastiness for its style. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 11, 2007 A very toasty, slightly tart aroma that just keeps same one same one in mouth. Hints at roastiness with powdery chocolate manage to eventually climb in, but little fruitiness enhances it and we’re stuck with lots of stale bread flavours that culminate into a very quick finish, thanks to the rather agressively carbonated palate. Middle of the road to me, but I would not mind having again. egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2007 [Batch 36] Poured a reddish mahogany color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel malts, light smoke, chocolate, grains, and wood. Taste of sweet caramel, cocoa, smoke, light citrus, and a bit more wood in the finish. argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Aug 7, 2007 (12oz bottle, Batch 36) Minimal head that entirely vanishes, atop clear brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, coffee/roast, light chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, caramel, light roast, chocolate. Smooth light-medium body, undercarbonated, light stickiness.
