I’m not the greatest fan of lagers, but this ’dunkel’ is worthy every penny. Very good Brazilian beer (rare). TheEpeeist (1445), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Smoky sourdough with a touch of molasses. Little oily, light carb. Seems a bit flat but a decent body. Tastes about the same as it smells. Watery finish with white pepper drying. Doesn’t really come together but a decent lager. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

The aroma is rich caramel and molasses. The flavor has roasted malt, some molasses, and ceramy light chocolate. Medium-light to medium body. This is a good dark lager.
12 oz bottle (Batch No. 36) Shared with Rob and Lance at the Oatmeal Stout Brewout. Rating #36 for this beer... JPDIPSO (4898), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Brown color, with a hint of red. Diminishing light mocha colored head. Light coffee, milk chocolate and a touch of toasted malt and ash trays in the aroma. Flavors have a lightly sugared pale malt sweetness. Light dark cocoa, charcoal and dry floral hops. This does seem to need a pairing with food. Smoked foods and heavier cheeses would seem to go well. Somewhat of a bore by itself. Cornfield (4928), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 6, 2007 As soon as the modest beige head reduced to a ring, this has the look of a glass of Coke. The sweetness of the aroma almost drove me away, dark chocolate covered caramel with a quietly roasty background. Fortunately the roasted malt increased in the flavor and a dash of earthy bitterness was added. This worked to counter the caramel & chocolate sweetness, balancing the drink nicely.

Slightly smoky taste with a hit of sweet malt and chocolate. Almost tastes a bit salty. Not bad at all. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 9, 2007 In the bottle from Beertopia. Pours a dark brownish black color with an ecru colored head. Has a mild roasted aroma and an even milder roasted malt flavor. This would have rated higher if they called it a Vienna style as it seems to be closer to the mark on that one. Has a slight bit of toasted flavor that works for it in the finish, but overall, a middle of the road beer. bhensonb (4248), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Aroma of medium, caramel malt, with just a hint of something darker, like chocolate. About as dark as a porter, approaching a stout opacity. The (I think) white head almost completely dissapeared while getting this far typing. A true roasted aroma as the glass approaches the lips. Almost like roast coffee of a sort. Medium bodied. Moderate to low carbonation. It starts with a roasted grain/coffee taste. It is not all that sweet. Not getting chocolate. The finish is not really dry, but the residual dark malt roast performs the function of hop bitterness. I can almost image the bitterness remaining after a cup of coffee, except there must have been a bit of sweetener in the cup. A really good variation on the typical German style. Much lighter, arguably much tastier. Rich, could be. Complex, oh yes!
