eboats (887), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Oct 26, 2007 Bottled. Poured the color of muddy creek water with a dark white head. Aroma is earthy with some nut notes found in many brown ales. Flavor was nuts, earth notes, and potting soil. Medium body. SSSteve (2045), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 21, 2007 pours a clear dark brown with purple highlights and a small beige head. aroma of coffee and toast. flavors is heavy on the coffee and roasted notes with some chocolate. almost stout-like with the coffee. dry finish. light-medium bodied. lacks the creaminess of a great dunkel with a bit too much coffee. RichardGretton (3128), Leicestershire, England Sep 23, 2007 Bottle. Black beer with a light head. The aroma is lightly yeasty and the flavour is roasted, quite watery and bitter/burn’t. Overall an average beer. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 16, 2007 12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a clear dark brown color. Only a bit of light came through creating ruby colored highlights. Head was light tan and dissipated quickly, settling to a skimpy ring. There wasn’t any lace left behind at then end. Aroma was a pleasant mix of dark chocolate, roasty malt, and hints of molasses and smoke. Sweet and roasty on the tongue with a dominant chocolate flavor. There was also light smoked bacon and a touch of coffee. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. beerlord (215), tonawanda, New York, USA Sep 13, 2007 Deep ruby color with a tan head, roasted grain and some sweetness inthe aroma. Good malty flavor with some roasted nuts and hops in the back groudn. Finally, a South American beer that doesn’t suck. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Sep 13, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown with red with a small head. Aromas are earthy and herbal coffee with cocoa chocolate. Flavours are malty with caramel and chocolate. Dry on the finish. OK. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Sep 6, 2007 Bottle. Nutty, toasted aroma drenched in doppelbockish malt - superb! Touch of earthy funk from the hops. Coke-colored pour with an ephemeral tanned head - gone in 8-10 seconds. Crisp medium-full body, medium bitterness with a splash of alcohol and, surprisingly, actual Coke-ish notes (Jack and Coke, really). The wonderful nutty and toasty notes of the prelude are, however, absent in the show and reserved for the dry aftertaste. Sideways notes of brown sugar and grape. Touch of chocolate, but takes a few ounces to notice it. Well-rounded, though somewhat non-German Dunkel. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Sep 2, 2007 Bottle: Dark brown, moderate light beige head, quite spritzy, settles too quickly leaving no head whatsoever, sparce lacing.   Lordy, I don’t think I would have ever smelled this in a beer, nor say it, but this smells like gravy!   Subtle hits of heavily roasted malts, but damnit, I am getting a weird gravy aroma out of this.   Not exactly appealing.   Slightly wheaty on the tongue, some roastiness, but damnit... way too much gravy doodle.   Dark lager is one thing, but mixing it with the meat, potatoes, and grav y is another.   Seriously, mash some potatoes, add some meatloaf, mix in some gravy, and you got this stuff.   I mean... WTFBBQ?!   Way different from the norm.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Kinda reminds me of that damned Turkey and Gravy Jones Soda.   Blech...
