American Beer in Brooklyn had just one of these botlles sitting next to the register. The label is different and in English. Pours watery dark brown with a very small head. The aroma is corny, malty and alcoholic. The taste started out bad but as it warmed noticed lots of coffee in the end of the flavor. Still the body was thin and ad a cheap malty backbone. I was disgusted at first but it grew on me as it warmed.

From a twist-off 12 oz. bottle, batch number (36) along the right side of label, sampled in a pilsener glass. A ruby hued dark brown appearance with a small, tight pale tan head that quickly dissipates into a fine lacing. Aromas of roasted chocolate, burnt grains and sugars, a nice kick of wafting dark roasted coffee, that freshly brewed coffee scent that wakes you up in the morning. Pleasant roasted malty taste, but also bit of a letdown compared to the aroma, not as rich and full as I was hoping, nor as smooth as I would have liked, medium bodied mouthfeel with a rough dryness, bittersweet chocolate, burnt sugar, bitter cold dark coffee, the hops are pretty light, just a soft spiciness in the finish, overall, a decent, but far from great, dunkel, I would buy it if it was on sale, I also would like to try this from the tap, but there are several German dunkels I would choose over this.

Pours a very dark brown with a slight reddish tint and a big soda head that fizzes itself completely away like a cola. Big grassy dark roasted munich malt aroma. Light flavor, faint dark roast, faintly sweet toffee, hint of grass, very subtle dunkel flavor that avoids being too cloying or grassy. Palate is identical to soda, explosive fizzy carbonation, med/light bodied. Strange beer.

12 oz bottle. Very dark, but light reveals a clear burgundy brown. Tan head goes quick. Smoky sourdough with a touch of molasses. Little oily, light carb. Seems a bit flat but a decent body. Tastes about the same as it smells. Watery finish with white pepper drying. Doesn’t really come together but a decent lager.

Decent dunkel that is more on the roasted malt side than the fruity banana and spice side. A bit of a chalky texture as well. Pours a dark brown. Aroma is a little bit of yeast and some spice. Flavor leans more to the caramel and chocolate malt flavors.

Bottled, Thanks Per! This is one of my favorite Dunkels. Black, no head. Aroma is roasted and sweet with some noble hops. Slight hops bitterness dominates the flavor. Watery body(typical for the style), dry finish. Excellent.

12 oz bottle

This was a find on my first stop to River Bend Wines near King’s Island. I figured that it could be interesting; if nothing else it is a new country to explore. Based on this I may try to find the Eisenbahn Lust. It wasn’t the best dunkel but coming from Brazil my expectations weren’t that high anyways.

Aroma / Appearance - The short lived head decorated a fluid dark brown liquid. Rye bread, chocolate and wheat composed a passable dunkel without being outstanding.

Flavor / Palate - The carbonated black raspberry taste was a bit underwhelming. Rye toast and malty fruits provide a little more depth before the flat soda finish. Overall it was decent and acceptable but nothing special.

12oz bottle. Brown-black color with a small frothy head. Lots of roasty chocolate flavor and aroma, while remaining pretty light and smooth on the palate. Not unlike a Porter. Some mild hop balance. Overall a pretty good beer, extraordinary by South American standards.
