| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 12, 2007 12oz bottle, Batch No. 36. Pours a clear brownish red with a 1/2 finger, somehwat fizzy quickly fading beige head. Aroma has toasted grain and nuts, light chocolate and caramel, a bit of the somewhat typical lager smell--sort of metallic, though not offensive. There is a little brown sugar as well. Flavor is much the same, though a little bit lighter up front and with the addition of some wet paper--again, this doesn’t really offend me. Mild sweetness during all of this into a dry roasted malt finish. Minimal bitterness. Carbonation is moderate and sharp with a body that’s just a hair too thin. Not too bad. nearbeer (1884), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Dark brown with red highlights and a medium head that settles down and hangs well. Chocolate and lightly sweetened coffee aroma. Flavor is similar, with the delicious roasted tastes providing the bittering more so than the hops. A hint of molasses, corn, and smoke at times. Medium body is smooth, dry and has a bit of tongue tingle. Surprisingly excellent dunkel, and a great session beer. LinusStick (1855), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2007 Wow! Now this is a beer. I saw "dunkel" and I thought "blah". But this put a delicious twist on the style. Pour was a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate (yes chocolate!) and alcohol. Taste was alcohol, chocolate and burnt malt. Almost tatstes like a Jack and Coke that has been left out for an hour. Only complaint is that it is a little thin in the mouthfeel with no real after taste. All in all an awesome beer Dorwart (1831), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Thin light brown head which dissipates quickly. Smokey aroma with some charred steak, roasted grains and a bit of cocoa. Color is a very dark brown. Smokey flavor with soy sauce, carbon and a some dark roasty flavors. Lite coffee. Little bit sweet with a good amount of flavor. Lingering smokeyness. Better than I expected. thornecb (1814), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Looks the part with the really dense bone-colored head. Very dark. A bit nutty and woodsy in the aroma. Slight chocolate and roasted bitterness in the flavors. Mouthfeel slightly watery despite, again, a bit of bottle-conditioning. Very good. blipp (1764), Newark, New Jersey, USA
