Batch #17. 12oz, twist-off, amber colored bottle. Dark brown label. Nice dark brown color, egg-shell colored bubbly head. Aroma is heavy deep toast, huge roast, macadamia nuts. Two words, Smokey caramel. Flavor has lots of smoked roast. smoked pork roasted on banana leaves. Lots of grainy malt character, some chocolate in the finish, pine hop. Fermented Malta.

Deep ruby color with a tan head, roasted grain and some sweetness inthe aroma. Good malty flavor with some roasted nuts and hops in the back groudn. Finally, a South American beer that doesn’t suck.

(12oz bottle, Batch 36) Minimal head that entirely vanishes, atop clear brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, coffee/roast, light chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, caramel, light roast, chocolate. Smooth light-medium body, undercarbonated, light stickiness.

Bottle. Dark brown color with a laced light brown head. Cereal and malty aroma with the familiar German dunkel aroma and flavor. Smoked with light chocolate, earthy and licorice flavors.

American Beer in Brooklyn had just one of these botlles sitting next to the register. The label is different and in English. Pours watery dark brown with a very small head. The aroma is corny, malty and alcoholic. The taste started out bad but as it warmed noticed lots of coffee in the end of the flavor. Still the body was thin and ad a cheap malty backbone. I was disgusted at first but it grew on me as it warmed.

A Mes rate: Bottle at GBBF. Dark chestnut colour with a head that fell pretty quickly. Smoky sweet malt and a little fatty. Slightly oily and a bit of caramel. Authentic dunkel but nothing too special.

Bottle at home from GBBF07 ... Deep brown ... smokey fruity nose ... watery light fruit malt with a little smokeyness in linger ... bit 1 dimensional but drinkable.
