But this put a delicious twist on the style. Pour was a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate (yes chocolate!) and alcohol. Taste was alcohol, chocolate and burnt malt. Almost tatstes like a Jack and Coke that has been left out for an hour. Only complaint is that it is a little thin in the mouthfeel with no real after taste. All in all an awesome beer joanabarbosa (47), Goiânia, Brazil

Also, its one of the best beers of Eisenbahn. Pours dark caramel color with a good head for an Eisenbahn. Nutty aroma, with roasted cereals, malt, chocolate and some fruits. Coffe, roasted malt, milk and nuts in flavor. Average carbonation. Malty aftertaste with light bitterness. FishManLA (300), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA

Malty "mocha" like flavor. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side. Coffee like finish. bhensonb (4371), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Aroma of medium, caramel malt, with just a hint of something darker, like chocolate. About as dark as a porter, approaching a stout opacity. The (I think) white head almost completely dissapeared while getting this far typing. A true roasted aroma as the glass approaches the lips. Almost like roast coffee of a sort. Medium bodied. Moderate to low carbonation. It starts with a roasted grain/coffee taste. It is not all that sweet. Not getting chocolate. The finish is not really dry, but the residual dark malt roast performs the function of hop bitterness. I can almost image the bitterness remaining after a cup of coffee, except there must have been a bit of sweetener in the cup. A really good variation on the typical German style. Much lighter, arguably much tastier. Rich, could be. Complex, oh yes! heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2007 From a bottle. The body is dark brown with a light brown colored head. The aroma is rich with coffee and chocolate. The taste is dry roasted with some almonds. There is also a little bit of iced tea and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is thin and slick. This is a pretty good dunkel. FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA

As I pour this brew a nice aroma of caramelized malt, toasted grain and light chocolate wafts to my nose. The beer pours with an initially three finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head in my 25cl tulip glass. The beer shows a dark, amber-brown color, but shows a brilliantly clear, cherry-red color when held up to the light. A deeper quaff of the aroma yields more, concentrated aromas as previously noted; light coffee aromatics, some light raisin notes and some berry aromatics are noticeable, though the roast character tends to dominate the nose if you spend more than a second smelling it.
Quite dry tasting up front, though a bit of caramelized malt sweetness creeps in towards the finish. Nice and roasted tasting, more leaning towards a nicely toasted malt character that burnt flavors. After my first sip a bit more of the malt sweetness becomes more noticeable, though not so much as to characterize this as a sweet beer. Quite light bodied, this beer is very quaffable though it does have a presence & heft in the middle. Light dusty cocoa flavors, some bitter dark grain notes as well as a light hop bitterness are found in the finish. This has a nice raisin-like maltiness to it at times, in fact a nice malt sweetness really does pick up here as the beer warms up (or perhaps it is my palate recovering from that overly sweet Pils I just had).
A tasty beer; I like how full flavored yet quaffable it is. It has more roast character than is typical of a Dunkel Lager, but I wouldn’t call it a Schwarzbier either; either way though it is tasty.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Bottled, Batch 36. Poured clear, deep reddish-brown with a swirly dustin gand a light ring of off-white head. The aroma picked up a nice blend of sweeter chocolate, drawn caramel, and molasses.. a little smoke as an accent piece. The flavor was quite similar and equally enjoyable.. sweet, smoke-accented chocolate and molasses at the core with toasted grains and caramel extending toward the edges.. not much bitterness at all.. sweet, dry finish. Light-medium bodied on the palate and very sweet (but well done).. the dry finish was rather refreshing. Good stuff!
