Poured clear, deep reddish-brown with a swirly dustin gand a light ring of off-white head. The aroma picked up a nice blend of sweeter chocolate, drawn caramel, and molasses.. a little smoke as an accent piece. The flavor was quite similar and equally enjoyable.. sweet, smoke-accented chocolate and molasses at the core with toasted grains and caramel extending toward the edges.. not much bitterness at all.. sweet, dry finish. Light-medium bodied on the palate and very sweet (but well done).. the dry finish was rather refreshing. Good stuff! GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 16, 2007 12 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery in Iowa City. Poured a clear dark brown color. Only a bit of light came through creating ruby colored highlights. Head was light tan and dissipated quickly, settling to a skimpy ring. There wasn’t any lace left behind at then end. Aroma was a pleasant mix of dark chocolate, roasty malt, and hints of molasses and smoke. Sweet and roasty on the tongue with a dominant chocolate flavor. There was also light smoked bacon and a touch of coffee. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

I’m not the greatest fan of lagers, but this ’dunkel’ is worthy every penny. Very good Brazilian beer (rare).
