Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, khaki colored head, some lacing. Sweet aroma - some chocolate, raisins, hints of molasses. Flavor is quite full-bodied - some pipe tobacco, raisins, caramel, cola. Good rib sticking Dunkel. Thick enough mouthfeel. Color me slightly impressed.

Bottled. A brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel as well as some notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as quite a lot of straw. Fine Dunkel.

Dark brown pour, with brown frothy head. Toasted malt nose, with hints of coffee. Nice touch of sweetness, with a good bit of caramalized malt and touch of cocoa. Medium body and the flavor is full through the end.

Bottle. Dark brown with mahogany tinges and a small white head. Raisiny aroma along with chocolate and caramel. Light metallic notes and otherwise nutty with sweet chocolate notes. Quite flavourful and interesting.

(Rating #1868)

From a twist-off 12 oz. bottle, batch number (36) along the right side of label, sampled in a pilsener glass. A ruby hued dark brown appearance with a small, tight pale tan head that quickly dissipates into a fine lacing. Aromas of roasted chocolate, burnt grains and sugars, a nice kick of wafting dark roasted coffee, that freshly brewed coffee scent that wakes you up in the morning. Pleasant roasted malty taste, but also bit of a letdown compared to the aroma, not as rich and full as I was hoping, nor as smooth as I would have liked, medium bodied mouthfeel with a rough dryness, bittersweet chocolate, burnt sugar, bitter cold dark coffee, the hops are pretty light, just a soft spiciness in the finish, overall, a decent, but far from great, dunkel, I would buy it if it was on sale, I also would like to try this from the tap, but there are several German dunkels I would choose over this.

12oz bottle, Batch No. 36. Pours a clear brownish red with a 1/2 finger, somehwat fizzy quickly fading beige head. Aroma has toasted grain and nuts, light chocolate and caramel, a bit of the somewhat typical lager smell--sort of metallic, though not offensive. There is a little brown sugar as well. Flavor is much the same, though a little bit lighter up front and with the addition of some wet paper--again, this doesn’t really offend me. Mild sweetness during all of this into a dry roasted malt finish. Minimal bitterness. Carbonation is moderate and sharp with a body that’s just a hair too thin. Not too bad.

Bottle. Pours iwht a fairly dark color and a small head. Nice aromas of grain and malts. Flavors of grain, caramel and malts. Has the charcateristic German lager flavor, nicely done like all the beers I had from this brewery. This beer works well with Mexican dishes I might add.
