Commercial Description:
Eisenbahn’s South American Pale Ale is well-balanced, with sweet wholesome malt, and earthy complexity, and a uniquely spicy aroma that results from a special, and secret, blend of Old and New World hops.

Bottle. Light brown colored body with some rusty tones, small, fast dissipating white head. Leaves almost no traces it was there, no lacing or very much foam. Watery and oily looking. Not very appetizing. Nose is rubbing alcohol, citrus fruits, maybe some floral hops but not much else, really not the nose I am looking for in an APA. Flavor is a bit better, but still has some sharpness from whatever is giving the rubbing alcohol sensation, then some perfume hops and weak citrus tones. No bitterness, no bite, nothing that is forward at all. Get a wave of sweet malts in the background, but even that is relatively weak. Light bodied, almost watery, no heft, boring. Bland finish, watery and forgettable. Avoid.

Bottle: Dark golden pour with a finger of creamy sand colored head. At first sniff you’d think pale lager, just lagery malty sweetness. Further sniffing reveals nothing more... Tastes malty and bits of corn. No real hops going on here, but there is some grassiness. Sharp, grassey finish is kind of crisp. Wierd and unsatisfying.

Poured from bottle into Flat Earth pint glass. Murky light brown with minimal head. Aroma of mild...something. Slight Belgian funk, fruit, and mild hops. Not really sure I like the smell, but I keep smelling it, so that counts for something. The confusion continues here. Definitely Belgian, almost like a mild fruity Wit, but with a slight hop bite at the end. Some spiciness as well. Strong carbonation, but relatively light body. Strange finish. Very different beer, but I mostly like it. Strangely alluring.

Bottle. Pours an amber gold with a thin off-white head. Aroma is an awkward combination hops and malts, a bit unbalanced leaving a bit of an unpleasant aroma. Flavor is a bit underwhelming, with a combo of malts and hops that leads to a wet wheat flavor.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear amber color with a minimal frothy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate grass hop and small malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Drinkable beer.

Aroma: Nice: Average pale ale aroma with some skunk lingering.
Appearance: Light amber in color, Clear with a thin head.
Flavor: Actually had a nice flavor. The skunk was present but not too much. Not Bad.
Palate: Dry Finish, with a Good Mouthfeel.
Overall: I was surprised this was a decent beer.

bottle at July BA Tasting. Pours a clear amber with white bubbles instead of a head. Nose is of grass hops and biscuit malt. taste is the same with grain as well. Mouthfeel was thin. This was shitty.

I really liked this, the consensus around the table was that its way to sweet or it had cardboard flavors, i liked it though ... . call me mint jelly, because i’m on the lamb! .. . refreshing stuff, i must say, a light sweet pale if there ever was one, nice golden shimmer to it, lacing is fine too! ... so long suckers! colgate cavity patrol!?!?!

7/08/2009: Eisenbahn S.A.P.A. has a faint aroma that seems a bit oxidized, yet still has some caramel maltiness and toast. The appearance it a tarnished gold color with a thin crown on top, a clear complexion, and an average level of carbonation. The flavor is suprising: lots of flavorful caramel that seems chewy but isn’t the usual thick, overly sugary maltiness with hints of toast and oxidation in the finish along with a mild sweet grassy hop flavor. Not bad at all!

12 fl. oz. bottle (twist-off cap; Batch No. 20) from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #143 for this beer.
