Eisenbahn Vigorosa (Weizenbock)

Malty aroma with some sweetness. Chocolate brown in color with an off-white head. Flavors of clove and some chocolate up front. Not bad, but the sweetness does need something hearty or meaty/gamy to accompany it like they suggest. May re-rate this with some food.

Poured a dark brown with a short-lived off white head. Nice caramel bock aroma. Slightly sour, caramel taste with a roasty finish. I wasnt expecting much out of this one but it wasn’t too bad.

12oz bottle from West Lakeview, Chicago. Cloudy red-brown with small, small bubbled tan head. Slight alc aroma with red fruit, grapes, spice, yeast. Flavor is purple fruit, some roast, slight alc and mettalic, yeast, some banana, most prominent is purple fruit and roast. Medium body and light carbonation. Nice.

Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Fruity esters of banana, apple, and light spices. Caramel malt,some light breadiness and a hint of chocolate malt. Great stuff.

Very dark hazy brown, tall bubbly head. Roasted wheat and some cinnamon aroma. Little smoky up front, leads to the dark roasted wheat and it all fades away clean too soon. Still dig that smokey edge though.

Bottle, 8%. OK caramelly and yeasty aroma, hint of plastic. Cloudy dark brown colour. The flavour is nicely malty with some yeast and a good sweet vinousness. Good Weizenbock flavour, but a bit thin considering ABV.

Looked flat with a murky brown body and a fizzy, disappearing head along with some minor lacing. Wonderfully rich aroma of caramel, black licorice and an earthy, peaty quality. Full bodied and heavily sweet, almost syrupy. Drinks smooth and doesn’t indicate such a high alcohol content. Great flavors of raisins, banana and chocolate covered pastries. Dry wheat and bread back up the fruitiness. Full flavored and very nice.

Pours a slight hazed warm ruddy brown with a dense generous light tan head, diminishing quickly. The nose is exactly what I imagine a weizenbock should be: malty, banana-y esters, and some dark malt character. A bit creamy and slightly roasty. Low carbonation, but yet a full, substantial body. The flavors are in line with the nose: sweet malt, banana-y esters (with a fair amount of cloves too), and some significant dark malt character. Alcohol pops through, though absent from the nose. Again, a bit of roast, again creamy. Lingering astringent to roasty finish with alcohol at the back end. Not a bad beer, not knocking my socks off, but not bad. I’m a softy for the style though.
