Derek881 (489), Frederick, Maryland, USA Mar 27, 2008 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The beer has a nice, healthy aroma featuring some pine and earthy hops, with some dark fruit scents, and a candy malt contrast. The beer has a clear, orange-amber color with a very small, and quickly fading, white head. It tastes mostly bitter and has some sourness, but very little sweetness, with a slight fruit effect; there is definitely a presence of alcohol at the finish. Starts off wet on the palate, but becomes drier at the finish, a lighter mouthfeel, with tingly carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer given the alcohol content and relative inexpensiveness. sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 24, 2008 Pours a pretty, red-orange color; lively bubbles throughout, and a small, almost frothy ring of head. Aroma quite sweet and malty with a note of dark fruit; alcohol does show here slightly. The first couple sips are, unfortunately, the best; sweet and malty with dark fruits and some toffee; alcohol is apparent with a twinge on the tongue and significant nasal warmth in the exhale; the description is true though: this drinks like a dessert drink, and the sweetness does not reach the point of being cloying. Mouthfeel is lovely: full and frothy, and fairly sticky on the lips. Overall, I’m shocked by the poor overall ratings for this beer, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. caleb (1), oxford, Michigan, USA does not count Mar 18, 2008 Looks like polished copper. Cedar chip aroma with a drizzle of homemade maple syrup and a hint of lacquer. Head is an afterthought, lacing a whisper barely heard. Mouth feel is two-dimensional. Starts out with a gingerbread heaviness, caramelized sugar follows. Dried fruit (dates, raisins, figs) set up the backbone. Finishes with a eucalyptus-like astringency. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Mar 18, 2008 Clear, deep amber appearance with a large tan head that faded quickly and left modest lacing. Toffeeish, sweet malt and ripe fruit aroma. Woodsy/earthy taste mingles with the alcohol, giving it a dessert wine-like edge. Sweetness linger through to the finish, with the alcohol dominating the aftertaste. doublebock (196), USA Mar 14, 2008 Auburn color with tan light head. Bready intensely malty aroma. Sweet syrupy flavor with nice crispy honey flavored finish. High alcohol burning on the back of the tongue. ogreface (291), Budapest, Hungary Mar 14, 2008 Annak idején azt mondták az okosok hogy ez a világ legerősebb söre.Mint kiderült nem az,de azért igen bika.Sőt annyira hogy nem harmónikus hanem olyan mintha egy felest borítottak volna bele.Nekem nem igazán jött be. BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 13, 2008 Served in a proper EKU Snifter at Academie de la Biere in Paris. Aroma is sweet of dry fruits and maybe some raspberries with alcohol. Clear amber body with a small head that disappears soon after pouring. Tastes a lot like the Samichlaus I had recently. Drinks a bit like a liquor with a kind of syrupy feel and noticeable alcohol in the taste and stomach, but it is pretty good overall. Not something that you could or would want to drink a lot of. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 11, 2008 3-2-08 bottle shared at tasting
Thin amber orange in color. Smell is very subtle and muted caramel. Flavor is quite caramel-like too. Heavy and sweet and a bit "hot" too. Lots of honey and sweetness. Interesting, but not very easy to sit back and drink and enjoy. Really boozy overall.
