Cajun (144), New Iberia, Louisiana, USA Mar 31, 2007 Bottle - Dark amber with thick creamy head. Strong aroma of malt, caramel, and alcohol. Flavors of thick sweet malt, molasses, honey, caramel, hint of bitter hops in the finish along with warming alcohol. I really liked the creaminess of it all and haven’t gotten that out of many beers. drpimento (785), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Mar 24, 2007 Mmmm, very nice. Poured with a huge, thick, foamy, light tan head. Very little lace. Great dark copperish amber color. Aroma is very intense malty, caramel, toffee, and yeasty. Flavor is the same. Finish is yeasty bitter at first then fading to above sweet flavors. A hint of the big alcohol, but not bad. Super rich; would only want one or two. Having this one with a bowl of spicy congee and it’s a perfect match. They have it a Bodega downtown La Crosse too. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Mar 18, 2007 Bottle. Small and quickly disappearing off-white head. Clear amber body. Dry honey aroma. Sweet and sugary honey hops flavor with just a hint of alcohol. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Mar 14, 2007 Clear amber body with a creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel and light malt aroma. Sweet syrupy caramel flavor. omhper (12147), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 13, 2007 Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clear amber, no head. Lots of dried fruit, Concentrated flavour of bready malt, figs, ripe fruits and grass. Very full bodied. Sugary and somwehatsyrupy with some port-like characteristics. Fairly clean mouthfeel. Almost no bitterness. Very powerful, but not with that much finesse. hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA Mar 10, 2007 This poured a very clear and attractive deep amber-brown color with fat and foamy white head that left moderate lacing rings in the glass. Nose was of malts, caramel, fruits, and mild hops. Mouthfeel was very riich and flavors mostly malts and fruit. The alcohol was hiden nicely, and the finish was mediium to long. Great beer. Not sure how I missed this on up to now. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Mar 6, 2007 A nice deep brown, deep caramel malt, with spirit tones, deep caramalised malt with long deep malt fruit linger. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Mar 4, 2007 Wrap-around-the face Madeira cake-drenched-in whiskey snout. Not as revolting as it sounds. Overripe plummy headiness. Muffling cotton wool dabbed in TCP. Nobody can hear you scream. Utterly headless after 2 swigs. Transparent amber stillness. Velvet caramel tangerine sweetness compensates. Nuts and wood. No syrup or burn whatsoever. Cakey but not at all cloying. Beers this potent are often numbingly dull and sugary, but this is a very pleasant exception. One of the best (non-Belgian) big-hitters I’ve encountered.
