LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 14, 2007 A nice eisbock. I don’t drink German beers very often and when I do I wonder why. This beer was like a wine. The pours was a thick red with a tan 2 finger head that left quickly. The aroma was wine and malt. The taste was chewy carmel with malt and alcohol. I don’t have much experience with eisbocks but if this is considered a sub par one, I must search out a good one ’cuz this is great. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 13, 2007 This beer tasted like a dunkel that had been distilled. While I know nothing about the history of this beer, it struck me that this beer may have been launched when high-alc alone was enough to distinguish you from other beers. But in a marketplace where we have an abundance of dubels, tripels, and quads, in addition to barley-wine, old ale and other high-alc styles, I’m not sure this beer measures up so well.
It poured with little to no head. It had a sweet malt aroma, and a pleasant malt/bourbon/caramel/spice flavor. Not bad, but not as complex/nuanced as I was led by the label description to expect. Mouthfeel was full and slightly puckery. This beer is not extremely drinkable, but I don’t think its supposed to be! eyesandsmiles (179), Mission Viejo, California, USA Feb 12, 2007 served in a brandy sniffer. tastes too thick. syrupy texture overwhelms any flavor. drinkable but not wholeheartedly recommended. JayBaxter (386), Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Feb 10, 2007 Clear deep bronze and despite an A1 pour it has no head what-so-ever. Aroma is as you’d expect sweet caramely and alcoholic, taste is sweet and malty but with a slight harsh finish and the cold tea appearance it looses points. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Feb 9, 2007 Golden dark brown colour with a nice frothy mostly lasting off-white head. Sweet aroma of some roasted malt, caramel, alcohol, spices and fruity hops. Flavour is sweet, rather smooth, nice maltiness, caramel, some spices, nice fruitiness, slight chocolate. Bit of a port like sweet dry finish. Easy to drink and pretty good with desserts. A good Echt Kulmbacher. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 7, 2007 Caramel color. Smell of wine, spice, malt, fruit, nuts, toasted caramel, alcohol and hints of vanila beans. Taste of plums, cherries, toasted malt, caramel, spice, toffee, nuts and alcohol. Very high alcohol taste and it really warms your body up. I like it! Thanks Brewblackhole! jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 6, 2007 Bottle. Poured a red hazy body with decent size head. Aroma was very sweet malty. Flavor was sweet also with a nice kick to it. Alcohol level very lightly detected, smooth for the style. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Feb 5, 2007 Bottle: Very clear copper color with a small, quick to dissapate white head. No lacing at all. Nose is quite fruity, malty, and hints of cider qualities. Taste is sweet with fruits and malt with a warming alcohol finish. For my first ever Eisbock I was quite pleased.
