Nary a trace of hops to be detected save for a smidgen of bitter somewhere in the end, which may just have been the alcohol in the finish. Pours ruby with a thin tan head. Nose is caramel, toffee, brown sugar and molasses. Flavor follows with a very chewy palate. Glad to have split this one with Immy, as I’m not sure I could have drank a whole one. Aroma of bread, citrus, and lots og alcohol bitternes in the end. Tasted like something in between Liqure and brown ale. To sweet and to mutch of bitter alocohol aftertaste in the finish. | 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Mar 2, 2006 Transparent and magnifying lucid brass in color with a creamy gray wrung and an errant grayish strand crossing the top to serve as the head. Boozy aroma, like a stiff brandy manhattan, elements of applewood, caramelized pears and liqueur lacquered cedar panels. Not appealing; in fact, quite appalling. Vanilla and woodiness flavor traits intercede a wallop of alcohol presence. Mulled, spiced apple cider meets brandy soaked figs. Terribly cumbersome. Spicy pepper meets spiced rum. Super-charged, liqueur-pumped toffee candies that were labeled rejects and tossed in the dumpster. Oily, margarine-like messages confound a sharp and contrastingly effervescent mouth feel. Carbonation hangs around much longer than other eisbocks, which makes me suspect, and hot alcohol seeping down the esophagus like a shot of rail liquor sums up the finish. The alcohol presence definitely worked against it. Without a doubt, the black sheep of eisbocks. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2006 Aroma is bold sweet malts. Taste is similar, though you can actually find some peppery hops having a wee say. Very very drinkable with the alcohol well hidden, one for when you need something sweet and strong and cant find samichlaus. TheOrange (405), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Deep brown body, tan-ish head. The dissapeared quickly. The aroma has a dsitinct fruity character. Very sweet flavor, a very light hoppy flavor disapates into a wonderful malty finish. The over all consistancy is a bit syrupy, and the finish lingers. BUt very good. Lubiere (4480), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Vinous fruity aroma with pears and light hops. Sweet caramel in mouth, with notes of vanilla, licorice and oranges. Viscous bodied, rich and smooth in mouth, loud aclohol notes, remaining in mouth throughout! Excellent. Can from Piscator, from Manitoba.Merci Kris! barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2006 (draft) Had a strange flavor that I’ve never been able to accurately describe in this type of beer. Very thick, almost syrupy flavor. The alcohol was quite evident.
