noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 5, 2009 Clear medium amber, thin off-white head, good retention but not much lace. Aroma of light caramel and alcohol, quickly fading. Flavor has a lot of simple sweetness and alcohol in it, but not much other character. A bit of medicinal bitterness on the finish. Potent alcohol warming, definite syrupy heft to the beer. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA May 4, 2009 Deep copper pour with a tiny white head and lace. A deep brown sugar aroma dominated for me. Brown sugar on the flavor followed by a very light smooth finishing bitter. A bit foamy medium bodied beer. mugabe (215), Sweden May 2, 2009 Bottle. Dark amber, medium to thin head. Sugary fruity aroma, honyey:ish flavour with a distinctive bitterness to the finish. Prominent alcohol. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Apr 30, 2009 Sampled at Beerhawk’s Beer Gods in the Boro, aka 1000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, By God Beer God Gathering, BG1K Tasting. Rich orange amber pour with fading off white head. Sweet vanilla, brown sugar, and alcohol. Not that bad, but nothing crazy special. yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Apr 23, 2009 Pours perfect amber. Glorious! Think white head doesn’t last long.
Nose is very spirit like. Reminds me of Macallan, maybe Glenkinchie single malt.
Thick, full bodied, alcoholic warmth, and caramel infused syrupy.
Warm and honeyed towards the finish. Aftertaste is very malty sweet. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Apr 22, 2009 Beautiful aroma of sweet ripened fruits, malty, bread-like, brown sugar. The appearance is also very attractive, a nice copper red color, substantial off-white head. The flavor was very sweet, but not cloying, fruity, brown sugar, slight alcohol (not much considering the abv), baked bread. The finish is where the alcohol comes out, aleaving an alcohol burn in the back of the throat. The finish has a very light bittering hoppiness as well. The mouthfeel is thick, and has a slickness to it as well. I really enjoy this style. While this is not the best Eisbock, it is certainly very enjoyable. Only the fact that it’s a little too boozy keeps it from being a classic. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Apr 7, 2009 Bottle. Poured amber with an off-white head that settles to a ring and left light lace. Sweet aromas of brown sugar, honey, and a light alcohol backing. The flavor found honey and malt with a light bourbon undertone. Medium body and sweet. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 5, 2009 BeerHawk’s Beer Gods in the Boro, aka 1000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, By God Beer God Gathering, BG1K Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to BeerHawk. Lightly red-orange with a light off white ring. Aroma of brown sugar. Taste is just pure brown sugar, very very sweet. Enjoyable in small sips.
