McNick (13), Canberra, Australia Jan 16, 2006 Bottle. Pours clear, maple syrup coloured with a very short-lived yellowish head. Within a minute, the glass looked like a cup of tea. Aromas of cinnamon, almonds, caramel ad candied fruits such as figs prunes and dates. As the beer warmed up, extra aromas of marrons glacés and caramelized bananas were released. The first sip was surprisingly bitter, but the aromas previously mentioned come through shortly afterwards. After amalgamation with saliva, the fruitiness subsides and reveals a new spectrum of malts including coffee and milk/white chocolate and a hint of liquorice. Mouthfeel is pleasant despite being a little watery for the intensity of the aromas and flavours. The alcohol content is barely hidden but blends well and is most noticeable in the aftertaste which is reminiscent of a freshly served sticky date pudding... flambé. Overall a very pleasant beer despite its unfortunate appearance due to the lack of head. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 12, 2006 Pure amber body with mild carbonation and a medium sudsy white head that faded flat. Sweet malt syrup aroma plus pecans and big time alcohol. Flavor is sweet and hot and reminds me of caramel and strawberries with a rich, syrupy malt character. Very mild hop profile and bitterness. Mostly flat, syrupy texture. A sweet, mostly clean, alcohol delivery vehicle. I can feel the heat all the way down. I wouldn’t pay to revisit this.
Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Jan 10, 2006 An alcohol kick on the first sip, but as it warms, it becomes a nice mellow drink. I think my bottle is abit old, probably mellowed abit. Alot of sugar and malt, but really not as overpowering as I’d expect, quite nice. pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jan 8, 2006 Bottle Peg Leg Pub St Maarten. Pours out a deep brown color with a slight frothy head. Aroma is sweet and malty. The taste is pretty much all malts, with some notes of alcohol, and sugar with a few notes of alcohol, but not as much as would be expected. eve (240), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 5, 2006 Rich and warming, lovely red-amber pour with aroma of molasses, and cognac, rich full-bodied flavor invoking coffee, chocolate tootsie-pop, allspice, and brown sugar. Long sweet-toasty finish. slang (392), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Jan 5, 2006 11.2 fl oz. Poured a decent, short lasting head. Clear and light brown. Smells like alcohol, malts, and sugar. Has a thin but syrupy feel; def. sweet and w/ noticable alcohol warmth, which burns a bit in the finish. Really enjoyed it and found it perfect for sipin’, Has a very similar taste to their other eisbock, but much more light and drinkable. maupie (593), Roosendaal, Netherlands Jan 5, 2006 This beer has a amber body - hue apperance and a coarse white scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had a lot of carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is spice. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Jan 3, 2006 Bottle. Very noticeable alcohol. Quite rich and sweet . Raisins and woody syrup flavours which somehow manage not to be overly sweet if sipped slowly.
