SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 22, 2005 Updated: Aug 1, 2006In the bottle at Huber Haus. Pours amber with a quickly diminishing head. Has a peculiar apple aroma, if you can get past the alcohol burn. Crystal clear in its transluscence. Sweet and syrupy without any hop balance. Sorry, but just about any American Barleywine can kick its ass. Someday, maybe, the Germans will discover the hop when they play with the high gravity stuff.
UPDATE 6/25/6: On tap at the Huber Haus. Amber beer with a thick rich cascading head. A very chewey beer vom foss, but I find it to still be out of balance with the strong alcohol not masked by malt or hops sufficiently. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Aug 22, 2005 Bottle. Rich amber color with a quickly dissapating off-white head. Slight alcohol and caramel aroma. Caramel and plum flavors - rich but no depth. Adjuncts and alcohol. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Aug 22, 2005 33 cl bottle. Light brown colour with a biege head. Very sweet of malt both in tha aroma and the taste. Ends up with a warm feeling. No yeast en bottom. Fast disappearing foam. Some sweet caramel aftertaste. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Aug 20, 2005 08.20.05 11.2oz bottle. Brilliant copper-golden, no sediment; medium-sized light tan head fades quickly leaving a slight ring. Aroma of plums, raisin, booze, grape juice, grenadine. Full, round, fruity, and chewy. Sweet bread with honey and apple butter, but never too sweet. Alcohol lends a finishing driness but not spicy; are there not hops in this? Alcohol is hidden wonderfully, but it’s unclear what it’s hidden behind as the stuff is rather simple and almost bland. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Aug 20, 2005 Bottle: Orange hued golden, quite clear, small sudsy off-white head, falls quickly, sparce lacing, soft carbonation.   Thick chewy nose, raisiny, fig, all in a dark and heavy sense.   However, seems somewhat only bready on the tongue, with a slight alcohol trailer.   Moderately sweet, nearing the cloying factor, but is rather palatable.   Not as flavorful as I’d hoped.   Moderate body, medium to full mouthfeel.   Fairly clean finish, just not complex or flavorful enough.
MoritzF (4859), Bochum, Germany Aug 16, 2005 (bottle) Clear amber colour with a small creamy white head. Sweet malty and fruity nose with hints of alcohol. Intense sweet flavour. Toastmalty taste with dried fruits and caramel and an alcoholic slightly hopbitter finish. Definitely not bad but it probably tastes better on a cold winter evening. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Aug 12, 2005 Decent sized off-white head. Settles slowly to a nice dense creamy foam. Soft caramel aroma with a good shot of alcohol. Nice legs up the size of the glass. Plenty of malts and a hint of squash. Color is a a bright copper. Thick and rich flavor with loads of caramel and malts. Delicious. Very soft mouthfeel and a big alcohol kick. So smooth going down. Finish is creamy and very warming from the alcohol. Damn I like these Eisbocks. A great sipping brew. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2005 pours amber with a medium sized tan head, aromas of sweet malt, fruit, & alcohol, taste is sweet, fruity, and loaded with alcohol, not bad, but it is every bit an 11% beer.
