Aroma of dark fruits, most prominently plums and strawberries. Otherwise malty and sweet. At first the taste is dominated by sweetness with a malty base. Then dark fruits come through, mostly plums, but no strawberries. Finish is suprisingly hoppy and bitter for such a sweet bock-beer. Mediumbodied with a normal mouthfeel. I don´t know why this beer gets such a bad rep from many people. I, for myself, liked it, especially the aroma. Papsoe (14798), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Used to be the world’s strongest brew - now just one of the strongest... Beautiful, deep amber colour, rather small, white head. Delicate almost sherry-like notes, some sweetness and a lightly smoked character reminding me of whisky. Loads of alcohol, but never unpleasant. Great beer indeed. 040899 goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2005 Poured a golden amber with a sparce head. Aroma was sweet and malty with some apples thrown in. Very malty sweet with more apples and a good amount of alcohol warming. The sweetness covers the alcohol taste though. Full-bodied. Tons better than Anheuser World Select.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 18, 2005 Amber beer with a white head that vanished instantly. Aroma of sweet malt and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet somewhat offset by bitter hops. I get a lot more alcohol than other raters, but not in a bad way. A very nice warming beer, but I would prefer a Samichlaus. stouby (1936), Holbaek, Denmark

Dark golden with white head, fully disappearing. No lacings. Aroma very sweet. Flavor first very sweet (fruity), ending in a fine bitterness. Medium body, oily/creamy, the strength is felt. tjthresh (1763), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 12, 2005 Aroma is rather un inspiring. Yeah, its big and maly. I get a lot of alcohol too. Appearance is fine. Poured amber/orange with a completly disapating head. Maybe a dark cherry with some toastyness. Bitterness comes out good. Kind of slick across the tounge. Alcohol makes it pretty thin.
I would have expected more from a beer with MJ’s recomendation right on the bottle. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
