krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Mar 30, 2009 120z bottle. clean and coppery in color. pours with a slightly yellowed head. has a big malty sweet nose. distinctly german style malt aroma.fuity candied apricot comes to mind. rich thick and sappy mouthfeel. prickly carbonation marries well with a hop flavor that is mildly spicy and a tad sharp. sherry or port this is not. for starters its carbonated. but i see the comparison because desert it is. sweet and full pair with? i’m not sure-a cup of coffee? ha carruthm (1112), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 24, 2009 first whiff is of barley and light alcohol, aroma travels well, sweet sugar, and some grassy wheat elements. pleasant and hints at a strong sweet flavor. taste matches that with a burst from the alcohol and jam packed sugaryness. My pour lacked much staying power in the head, but it was bubbly and a orangeish brown hue. palate is a little hot from the ABV, carbonated. Overall, it’s got a lot of good parts and nothing really bad, but the combination of bubbles and alcohol puts me off a bit. It gets a bit better as it airs out but also acquires a more liquor like personality.
8/2/7/3/14 MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2009 Bottle. Pour is a coppery amber with little head and aromas that remind me of bananas and bourbon. Flavor has an overwhelming bourbon edge to them that is really astringent in the aftertaste. I didn’t enjoy this Eisbock very much. coyotehunter (542), , Michigan, USA Mar 21, 2009 Strong aroma of Banana bread and walnut. Pours a dark yellow amber with a full finger head. Rather pungent bourbony flavor. Not what I expected. Notes of malt and sticky pine, maybe caramel. Alcohol isnt hidden at all. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Mar 11, 2009 Bright coppery colored with little vanishing yellow head. Raisinny and nutty aroma with some bourbon port vinous notes, still rather thin one, mild alcohol comes up. Medium to full bodied. Flavor has sweet caramel and raisins in start, aftertaste dries with mild alcohol and port, dryness here too. Alcohol lasts rather obviously. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 3, 2009 This bottle pours clear red with a thin tan head that mostly disappears. Aroma is caramel sweetness, slight alcohol and sweet fruit. Thick sweet taste with a little alcohol coming through the nose almost making it taste like cough syrup. It has a very rich texture and flavor to it and finishes well. Plus the label tells about the German law Reinheitsgebot but it’s all in German. Good authentic brew. Stefano (1322), Esbjerg, Denmark Feb 28, 2009 Amber colour with a small mostly diminsihing white head. Aroma of caramel malts and hops. To sweet and to much of bitter alocohol aftertaste in the finish.
Elwood (667), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Feb 26, 2009 Nice copper color with a white head that fades into trailing pools of carbonation. Nose is sweet with some fruit and alcohol. Medium carbonation. Taste is very sweet upfront. Nice, rich mouthfeel. Hints of orange that remind me of Grand Marnier, macerated fruit, raisins. Some hop bitterness on the back of the tongue evens out the sweetness. Noticeable alcohol, but that is to be expected. A good after dinner beer in the midst of the winter!
