diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Aug 6, 2004 Frothy, off-white head which diminishes fully. Virtually no lace. Normally clear, orange body. Yeasty (dough), hoppy (flowers) and port aroma. Moderately acidic, lightly bitter initial flavour. Lightly acidic, lightly bitter (long-lasting) finish. Fully bodied. Lively carbonation. Moderately alcoholic feel. haf (333), Gijon, Spain Aug 5, 2004 Muy buena cerveza rubia. Bastante sabor a malta. Espuma contenida. Mucho cuerpo. cquiroga (370), Sylmar, California, USA Aug 2, 2004 Updated: Aug 5, 20048/2/04. Poured out of 11.2 oz. bottle, bought at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA 7/25/04. Pours a bright amber orange with slight, creamy yellow head that dissipates. Some tiny, lumpy bits of lacing. Looks very full, and I love that color. Nose is a bit faint, but contains rich, bold alcohol and a big lagery malt scent with a crisp edge to it. Totally feels like the big badass malt liquor it is. Some resin, dark honey, and a touch of caramel. Flavor is very big, with nice subtleties at the same time. Huge alcohol bite and a big sort of dark nutty, bready, and doughy flavor. Roasted peanuts with no salt. Toasted hazelnuts. Pretty good, especially considering the ratings on here. Body is very full, moderately carbonated, lightly burning from alcohol, and contains a full phantom glow of caramel on the finish. Also some weird earthiness and-- dare I say-- a mushroomy flavor (??). . . Both raw and sauteed button mushrooms. Long and strong, but not exactly my cup of tea. Still pretty good. Instantly warming, makes me feel good drinking it. But the flavor, while respectable, can take some getting used to. I'll try! r464 (285), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 2, 2004 Malty aroma, coppery color. You definitely feel the alcohol in there. Nutty, earthy, and heavy. Hints of fruit in there. Not particularly satisfying. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 31, 2004 Yellow-creamy head for some secs, (and than only for the frozen glass); orange-foxy beer, clear. Quite sweet nose, extremely concentrated grainy smell, alcohol there but not over-obvious, a touch nutty; peppery-vinous finish. Unexpectedly bitter initial taste, some hoppiness even. Monstrous malt lurking underneath, cookie and very (hazel)nutty. There’s also a ever more presence of almonds, turning nearly marzipan flavour. Bitterish-burnt rich malty finish. Syrupy, very slick mouthfeel, very well-bodied, of course. Alcohol in the aftertaste, some adstringency and dry-out effect. A monster of a beer, but not a monstrous beer, if you get the diff’. It’s been always too sweet and too roaste for my preference - but no discussion about it being something special. davidflores99 (225), Long Beach, California, USA Jul 27, 2004 Dark beer, very little head. You can taste the alcohol in this, and its pretty strong at 11%, I wouldn’t buy this beer again though. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Jul 18, 2004 Dark amber color with no head. Aroma of malt and raw barley. Definitely reminicent of a barley wine. The alcohol is not hidden at all; two medium sips burns a hole in you. There’s just not much to entice my taste buds to dance. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Jul 18, 2004 Dark Amber Coloring. No Head. Tastes Like a Barley Wine. Alcohol is Very Evident. One Was Enough.
