spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 13, 2004 On tap at Half-Time with LiamPatrick. Very complex beer. Very fruity alcoholic aroma. Decent light amber/orange appearance, nice white lasting head. Flavor was just ridiculously sweet, complex. Very thick. OK. Couldn’t drink more than one. LiamPatrick16 (124), Montgomery, New York, USA Jul 12, 2004 alacholic aroma and poured thick as molassis in january bubbles were constantly rising through the thick amber brew. You could definatly taste the 11% alcohol esp at first taste but a sweet flavor after taste ensued, that made the high alcohol content bearable. It sat very thick in my mouth. over all pretty good and enjoyable.
P.S. BIlly Bergen is sweet rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 8, 2004 Raisin malt aroma, very sweet. Head quickly disappears. This beer punches you in the tounge. Super malty, alcohol, grapes, sweet port. Geez. I could see savoring a bottle of this on a cold winter day. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Jul 6, 2004 Wow, what a malt bomb. I love the body on this one, with just barely perceptible hops. Interesting huge lager. One of my favorites. ToolHead (235), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 5, 2004 33 cl. bottle. Served in Duvel tulip.
Amber/gold color. Wow. Malt, malt, malt.
And sickly, overpowering, disgustingly aggressive ALCOHOL.
Yuck. This is not for me. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 1, 2004 Brewtopia 2004: Clear amber orange. Alcohol and biscuits with some light spices. Syrupy mouthfeel, starts sweet and gets even more sweet. I’m not sure that I would like this as much if I drank a bottle or two at once. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Jun 28, 2004 Updated: Dec 10, 2008[bottle - Great European Beerfest 8, Sharp Edge Tavern - East Liberty, PA] The first eisbock I ever had. Poured a deep copper red with a creamy looking white head. Very rich aroma of hops blended with sweet malts, caramel and toffee and some clove as well. Isn’t as sweet in the flavor as I thought it would be. It has sweetness to it, but also a decent balance of hops and alcohol. Very thick and chewy. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2004 This beer turned out to be my first eisbock and I’m nearing beer #500. Its just a category I’ve been horribly neglecting for the longest time. Anyhow, here we go, eisbock time! This beer pours a clear copper red color with little head and a slight hint of carbonation, but it quickly would disappear for good. The aroma is pleasant with hops, caramel and vanilla malt, hints of citrus and clove in there. I can see now why people feel this is very wine-like. The taste however leads something to be desired....whats the word i’m looking for here.... BALANCE! The alcohol and citrusy mango flavoring is overly astringent on the palate. Some heavy maple/vanilla syrup in the finish. Very dry finish, but somehow slightly crisp. The alcohol relents a bit after one’s palate becomes numbed by stupidity. Caramel and vanilla are pleasant, but man that alcohol astringency just cannot be forgotten. If they could hide that just slightly, this beer would be nudged significantly higher. Overall an interesting eisbock experience, but I bet I could find something better out there!
