BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jun 13, 2004 This was the first Eisbock I’ve ever tried and it certainly won’t be my last. This beer looked just great in the snifter, very clear amber that looks smooth like it has no carbonation. Reminds me of drinking a fine liquor or a port. Aroma has lots of alcohol, honey, apricot, grape, almost a wine like aroma. The taste is incredible and very sweet & syrupy, alcoholic, quite warming with even some hops here. I think this is the kind of beer you would either love or hate. I love it. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2004 Consumed at approximately 60 degrees from a large brandy snifter. Pours crystal clear amber with a wafer thin white head. Aroma is quite dominated by the 11% ABV, but backed up with a big hit of honey, apricot jam and grape in the nose. Mouthfeel leans a bit to the thin side and somewhat oily. Flavor is one of insulin inducing sweetness!! If you’re not fond of sweet beers this one is not for you. Lots of jammy, honey, molasses sweetness with a pronounced port like finish. A brew like this needs at least 11% to cut through sugar rush! I enjoyed it but it took me close to an hour to finish it due to richness. unclebleen (620), California, USA Jun 8, 2004 Pours a clear amber color with a small white head. Aroma is viciously sweet and fruity, sugary as well. Flavor is less sweet than expected. Alcohol is prelevant, along with some smoke and fruit also swirl around this beer. Body is thick and syrupy. I’m having trouble appreciating this style of beer. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jun 6, 2004 "Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming." two (2) out of three (3)ain’t bad! This is a wonderfully aromatic and warming (11% ABV!) beer. Too say that it is never cloying would be true right up until you actually drink it. I can down a large bag of candy in one sitting - yet this beer is still to sticky and sweet for me. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada May 25, 2004 (500ml can) Pours a large yellow, frothy head and a clear, deep amber body. Nose of sweet molasses with some hidden hops. Very sweet malt with a tinny finish. Oily texture. Interesting... Good! Thanks Rudge75! MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 16, 2004 Glassy brandy color with no consistent head. Aroma contains notes of grape, gum, and the standard flowery side. Well difined palate as it is crisp at first but follows through with an oily feel with the alcohol. Flavor isn’t much to write home about, but it does make for an enjoyable beer (but that might just be the 11% talking.) walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA May 7, 2004 Updated: May 8, 2004pour amber with light tan head some lacing. aroma malt, fruity and alcohol.mouth feel was slick .had a vanilla alcohol taste. did not care for this one. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Apr 30, 2004 I poured this right down the middle of the glass and it produced an average size head that was creamy and of average duration for the style. The body was a brilliantly clear deep golden beer. The aroma was complex. Toasted malts, caramel and alcohol. Sweet, almost cloying if it weren’t for the alcoholic bite. Bock’s answer to Barleywine!
