Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Mar 18, 2004 Smells like peach pie. Orange brew, little head, decent label. It is indeed like sherry. Vanilla, alcohol bitter, almost salty on the front of the tongue, very warming, lots of bock/barleywine sort of character. Very smooth for a beer that has the kick that it has, the finish is very quick and a bit nutty. LoveCaissa (873), Copenhagen, Denmark Mar 18, 2004 Amber colour. Sweet, malty, alcoholic, warming, vinous and full-bodied (almost oily!). Shares features with Samichlaus but is slightly more drinkable. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA Mar 17, 2004 Clear gold with a small, white, quickly diminishing head. Sweet nose with caramel/toffee. Flavor is sweet, nutty, with plum, caramel, and peach. Nice creamy mouthfeel. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Mar 10, 2004 A very pretty orange color with a fizzy beige head that quickly disappears. Lies still in the glass. A very sweet nose, cotton candy, port wine, wood. Wow, you know this is going to be exploding with flavor. Bam, malts all over the place, specialized malts....crystal for sure. Alcohol isn't a bit shy, it's right there like a siren tempting you to sail on to the rocky shore. Make no mistake, this is a dangerous beer, lip-smackingly sweet but packs a whollop of a punch. Why is Anchor Old Foghorn in a 7 oz bottle and this in a 12? This is THE ski lodge beer, a winter warmer that can be, no....should be shared by two people. It is like sipping brandy, definately a dessert beer. Call me a Masochist, but I like it! wulfhere (217), Billings, Montana, USA Mar 9, 2004 Deep, ruddy amber with moderate head that slips away, leaving just a faint ring.
Massive nose--banana, clove, cinnamon, toffee, caramel, pepper, but above all, malt.
The mouthfeel is thick, sticky. Taste is malt, alcoholic heat, caramel and brown sugar with spiciness. Finishes oddly dry. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Mar 7, 2004 Nutty brown with hints of red and not much head. Aromas are sweet, syrupy and laced with all that alcohol. Flavours too are boozy with molasses and hints of brandy. The finish is an alcohol infused warming feeling. A decent nightcap. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2004 Updated: Feb 26, 2008This is a favorite of mine - perfect for nursing over a quiet winters night. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a crystal clear deep mahogany color with very little head that disappears very quickly. The brew has the texture of of brandy without the burn. The aroma is sweet and nutty. There is a burst of sweetness, plum and molasses in the flavor. Some faint bitterness lingers. There is some alcohol burn. Definitely a slow sipping beer more reminiscent of wine or brandy. A classic. jde123 (715), Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 2, 2004 Umm, hmm... Other beers from carrying the Eku moniker were much better. What happened to this one? This beer lacked head when poured, too-malty aroma, thick mouthfeel like chewing a sock. Not a great beer.
